so im on my 3rd to 4rth hour of gameplay in FFXIII, and what ive noticed is people are saying its not turn based. i think it is its just hidden, unless you can get your attack bar to recharge faster, what generally happens in the fight scenes for me is i attack, they attack, my bar recharges, i attack, they attack, and so on. isn"t that turn based?
Sounds it to me, which is rather disappointing as it sounded like a new direction from the otherwise tedious turn based menu nonsense.

I think it's very much turn-based. I told BFZ it's a SP turn-based system...I can't think of another way to describe it...

i just wish they would advertise better, some people are probably pissed because they thought it was gonna be button mashing or something, but i do love the game, so far it just seems like an interactive movie, more watching than playing.

I've not played FF13 yet, but I personally like the way Eternal Sonata did turn based. Perhaps that's what you meant by "button masher"

It's a Final Fantasy game. Most of the people who would even be remotely interested in the game have known about it for years and have either already bought, or are intending to buy it as soon as they can. They also know pretty much exactly what to expect from the game. The others are either too young to have played a Final Fantasy game (9 years since the last good one?), or people who never really cared for RPGs but heard about how big this game was supposed to be.

It's turn based. Isn't the action meter called the ATB bar or whatever, again, which in itself is saying its turn based? However, it doesn't feel so turn based, because of all the action going on at once, and of course, if you're not paying attention, you can very easily skip your own turn.

I was simply saying buying a FF game expecting a button masher(term that makes me think of...God of War, or the Dynasty Warriors games, or even a game like Marvel UA). So if someone bought a FF game expecting a button masher, I don't feel sorry for them for not doing their homework.
But then I said unless by button masher the person meant something along the lines of Eternal Sonata. It was turn based, but I know when it was my turn to attack, I was spamming the attack buttons endlessly, giving it a button mashing RPG feel.

I was assuming it was kind of like an MMO, where when you activate an action it take a couple seconds to complete (varies for the action) and as soon as that action is complete you can do another action. Not turn based pure se, but not button mashing either. Is my assessment pretty close?
