Well if you know what kind of gamer you are, what you like, dislike and what you can ignore, reviews matter less and less. A review is just an opinion from someone you don't know or relate to. Granted reviews are somewhat accurate, don't look at the scores, ignore them completely. Read the review and if you see things like "corny" or "regular storyline" (as if that was a bad thing), you know what you think about those, since youve played with them before.

But as for games like you're talking about, i would read a review or two first, maybe inquire online, because all you need to make a game is money. You don't need ratings or anything, just doublespeak the info, and put a pretty picture on the front, and itll sell till word gets around.

Dont just randomly pick games, find out what youre buying/trading for. But i agree, there are games that people torched out the window that are good, but there are a lot more that were torched for a reason.

Yeah, definitely.  There are a lot of things about games that I like that reviewers seem to hate.  Plus, I can really enjoy games if say they have a great combat system and a terrible story, but that can get it a 2 out of 5 in a lot of reviewers minds.  Not to mention it seems like reviews are straying away from gameplay a little bit and put too much importance on things like online multiplayer, or how PERFECT the graphics are.  I don't care if my rpg is photorealistic or not, it isn't like I am going to get so immersed that I forget it isn't real or anything.

Every time I bring up a game I have this friend who will spit out 10 bad things that he read about it and say something like "I don't know, it looks interesting but it isn't getting great reviews"  and I always have to remind him that I don't really care what the reviews say.  For example,  according to him borderlands wasn't getting great reviews because people were skeptical about the style of the graphics, and then he played it for like 2 months straight after it came out and everyone on the internet was freaking out about how good it was!

I like a lot of games that kind of go under the radar and don't get reviewed much at all.  There are a lot of fantastic wii games that get overlooked, like Dokopon kingdom.  It is illustrated with a bunch of chibis on the cover and it is labeled as sort of a board game, so a lot of people haven't heard of it  but it is completely funny!

I think reviewers are a lot harder on RPG style games just because there are so many it is hard to get a lot of new ideas worked in, but if it ain't broke don't fix it right?  I love typical rpg elements, so companies can keep spitting them out and I will keep buying them too Yes

I had read all these reviews praising the first "Jax and Dexter" game and was egar to get it.When i finally got it,i only played it for abou two mintues because i found it boring and the controlls too slow.So instead of letting it gather dust on my bookcase,i traded it here on Goozex to let someone else enjoy.

I bought Obi-Wan for Xbox knowing the reviews it received. Yes the graphics are pretty bad for an OG Xbox game and the voice acting is terrible...ugh, but I played through the game and enjoyed it. I still own the game. Using the right analog stick to control the lightsaber worked pretty well, imo. Problem was the camera. Still a fun game for me. No regrets there. I did buy Haze for the PS3 real cheap because I am a big fan of FPS games. Wow did that game suck.

I do get some easy achievement games that get mediocre or worse reviews, but I barely have time to play the good games I want to play. I don't know who I am kidding.

I used to be 100% for the JRPG's but recently I've become addicted to western RPG's, they really are getting amazingly good. In defense of my once uber-beloved JRPG's though I bought Infinite Undiscovery even though the reviews were a mesh of "blah."

It wasn't super original or incredibly epic but it was a fun enough game, I only spend $15 on it and I don't consider it a bad purchase at all.

I agree that reviewers are super harsh and unbalanced when it comes to reviewing JRPG's though. I thought FFXIII was a mash-up of everything I didn't always like about JRPG's and the linear structure ticked me off because it's been 3 years in the making. I mean, some of the best graphics seen in a game ever yet Vanille runs like a disjointed ragdoll, the controls felt clunky and the battle system is not something I enjoy yet it got higher reviews than Lost Odyssey and I found that game to be fantastic. :O It depends on the reviewer which is why I'll GameFly when I'm interested but unsure.

Reviewers do seem to be harsh on RPGs, especially if they're Japanese. I loved Lost Odyssey, especially for keeping the turn-based gameplay. I was so mad to listen to X-Play diss on FFXIII. They always seem to be making fun of FF games. Maybe they hate everything from Japan? IDK, but Adam and Morgan usually know they're stuff, so I listen to them.

I liked it too. I was actually surprised at the reviews it got since, as usual, I didn't bother to read any of them until after I got the game.

I don't generally follow reviews.  I feel like it limits my gaming selection if I go off of what someone else says about a game, essentially altering my opinion.  My favorite example to use is Godhand, which got mixed reviews.  Even the creator isn't sure if he liked it, but it is one of my favorite games of all time.

While I read previews and reviews to kill time @ work, I tend to ignore them from a purchasing standpoint. They might help me to determine on if I'll wait till it's a bargain bin buy or not, but I'll still give any game a shot.

Since I collect games, even the crap titles live happily ever after on my shelves with the elite ones.

There's also many games I'll buy just for fan service. Crappy games like the last two Transformers & GI Joe for example. Other games like Two Worlds, LOTR Conquest & Sacred 2, to name a few, were examples of games with low scores that I really enjoyed.

Recently, I've been playing Too Human. The reviews weren't very good, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the game.
