tranceFusion: txa1265: I love my Moto Droid ... but I really *need* a physical keyboard ... twenty years of PDAs and always came back to keyboard ones. Android OS is very nice and the app market is growing fast. how do you get along with the physical keyboard? I can't figure out if I would actually use it.. it seems kind of flat and cramped. I have been weighing getting a Droid but rumor has it that Verizon will have Nexus One at the end of the month.

Like I said, I haev been using small keyboards since buying myself a HP 95LX 'mini computer / PDA' 20 years ago. So I prefer tiny little keyboards with something physical over virtual keyboards by far ... and much better than 'grafiti'-type stuff.

I just used my upgrade on my AT&T plan and got the new MOTO Backflip Android. Switched to this from an iphone and so far i'm more than impressed. The droids features far out match that of the iphone. The OS is completely customizable right out of the box. Loving this phone.

As an iPhone user and developer, I did like what I've seen of my friend's Droid. I'm not up for a new phone until next March so I'm going to wait to see what happens with the iPhone OS between now and then. Apple's recent shenanigans in many areas have turned me off to them again.

I love my iphone, but as someone who relies on their cell for daily use, I hate AT&T. People text me, and it never shows up.. I get half way through setting up an insurance policy, oh no.. "Call Failed"... I finally get through a 30 minute session of sitting on hold and "Sir I can't hear you at all, there is just a lot of echoing".
I am about to pay the ETF, ebay the phone, and get on Verizon. I just wish they had some better phone options. This free Droid deal is tempting, but I am sure they are about to drop some hot new phones to replace it.. I guess that's just life in the tech age though..
Back on the Nexus One topic, just received it, but need to wait till its fully charged to turn on. damn this wait is annoying.
Very sexy slim phone though; they even etch your name and email on the back of it included in the price.
To a prior post: this is definitely more of a google product than HTC, don't see HTC anywhere on the phone or box.
My friend with the Droid was over all weekend and now I want one more than ever. Need a map, menu or website? BAM! Granted, most smart phones could do that I'm sure, but it looked good doing it. Not to mention some sweet cow abduction game...
My upgrade hits in June, contract is done in August. I'm hoping the Droid 2 hits soon, or at the very least, that I can limp on without a commitment until the next holiday season when the new 'in' thing is out.

I drove ~8 hours last night / this morning with my project manager and two colleagues (NY to VA) for an extended experiment ... and my ProjMgr used 'PDANet to do email along the way ... and I introduced him to TouchDown (MS Exchange solution for those with IT depts who won't set up proper OTA ActiveSync) ... and each of us had our fave calculator - mine a HP48 simulator his just a standard widescreen calc. The Droid is once again such a sweet smartphone ...
Free apps I've downloaded so far:
Another really cool thing is how quickly the sync is between my google contacts on my PC and the N1. Truly amazing and open marketplace.
Isn't that an Android?
I love android, best ever. I have a G1 (first android phone) and it rocks.
I just googled the Nexus One, it looks super awesome. If you can use that touch screen keyboard, it should be a great phone.
Yeah Android. The touch screen and voice rec work great.
I tested out PDANet with success too, tested my laptop speed to about 800k/s, about half of my Sprint Aircard of 1.6Mb, but then again, I can drop the $60 a month aircard and just use the N1. 800K still gets a 20Mb file down in under 5 minutes.
Anyone have any luck with any program that can edit office docs? I can open and view office attachments very easily (doc, docx, xls, xlsx) but I can see where I might need to make a tiny change on the road sometime and could use editing capability. Anyone buy DocumentsToGo?
I'm going to try out google docs, as I can edit those, but don't know if i can import and export on the phone.

Don't know about the Droid, but I just point my iPhone to docs.google.com and edit from there the same as I would on the big screen. I'll have to check about import/export, what exactly do you want to do? Save to the phone? Email on?

Say someone emails me a stand alone document and I want to edit something and email back. Save attachment from email, import to gdoc, edit, export, then resend?

Again, not sure about the Droid, but you can edit via the mobile gDocs site. You can also click the "View in Desktop" link at the bottom of the site to access the standard version for sending the document as an email attachment.
On the iPhone there isn't currently any way to export the file from an email into gDocs because of the suspension of being able to upload a file by sending it to your gDocs email address. Droid might have a better solution.

I have used the free version of Docs2Go, and have used it on other PDA's for ages ... great stuff, but haven't needed it enough to justify the buy. But right now it is on a ~30% off sale, I think.
Good call on the Documents To Go txa. They have a sale for $10 (from $30) till March 27th. I can open and edit password protected excel and word files.

Now if Dropbox can get a functioning app up, I'll be all set.
