As of 2007 the Premiership had 34% English players, while the NHL had only 15% US players and over 50% Canadian players. MLB had over 70% American players, though only 52% American in the minors.

I really don't see what any of that has to do with poutine...

Funny, don't most of those players from the Canadian team play on American hockey teams in the NHL? Hmm

Might have something to do with the fact that there are 24 US-based teams and only six based in Canada.

And for all you douchebags who always talk crap about Sidney Crosby well you can take all your words and shove it. Crosby is #1 with the following titles: MVP at rookie season, Youngest Captain ever to win a Stanley Cup, & now Game winning OT hero with a Olympic GOLD MEDEL.

well at the end of the day crosby still comes back to the US to play for the pittsburgh penguins....

but i wonder what team morale is gonna feel like when the nhl resumes--i wanna see orpik and crosby duke it out on the bench. haha. jk.

Let's see Canada beat us in Football, or Basketball, or Baseball, Hell lets see them beat us in Soccer. If hockey is Canada's sport I would've expected a blow out. Cool

Baseball at 2008 Beijing Olympics, USA 5, Canada 4 (USA won bronze in Beijing). Not a blowout there either. :p

But yeah, Canada blows at anything that is not a winter sport, and the few athletes we get that are good at a sport that is not hockey do not get much support. Wozniak (tennis) is a good example of good talent with little chance at further development because outside of the two main tournaments in Canada (Montreal and Toronto), tennis has very little appeal.

Nobody here ever claimed Canada was better at sports in general. The hockey team won the gold, that's about the extent of this current discussion.

It's about the only sport where there's an actual Canada-USA rivalry. :(

Yeah you can't really compare Canada and the U.S. in the Summer Olympics, that's no contest. However, an interesting stat is that the U.S. sent 596 athletes to the Olympic games in Beijing, and Canada (only) sent 332. Even Own the Podium accepts our clear deficiencies in the Summer Olympics, hoping for a top-12 finish at the games in London, compared to having the largest medal count at these Winter Olympics. If you go back to the traditional tallying of medals (most gold medals=victor at the games), Canada was extremely successful at these Winter Olympics.

Ohh and one more thing. If hockey is "Canada's" game, why did you lose two professional teams in the last 20 years due to poor fan support? I can understand a place like Arizona not caring, but camon' Winnipeg and Quebec, so much for hockey fans.

There was a LOT of fan support in both cities. What was lacking was corporate support. And besides, go in practically any canadian NHL city and you'll see a sellout crowd at any given game. Only a few american cities can say the same.

Actually, a large part of the reason Canada lost hockey teams was because of the currency exchange at the time.  A star player in the US was making 5 million a year, in Canada, they'd have to pay around 8 million a year to keep the player.  Not like that now, but then, it was a big deal.  And the only people who should be sad at all are the people that don't like hockey.  They miss out, not us.  Go U.S.!  Go Canada!  Go Hockey!    Now go eat a bagel.

G-Nitro I live in the Northwest and I play. I really enjoy hockey. My hockey team had a similar game last night. See link to view our score sheet. http://www.pointstreak.com/stats/am/gamesheet_full.html?gameid=1158829

It's still hockey. Outside of Canada and the Northeast US, no one cares. :P

More like mid northwest and Soviet Union!....That's about it.

Yeah I'm not reading through four pages but wasn't it basically an All-Star game?

Really?  Outside of Soccer, is there a more played game internationally?  Baseball maybe.  But those are definitely the big 3 worldwide I think.

Its certainly not crap NFL, a sport that TRULY no one cares about outside of NA.

Canada has about a month of summer...if were lucky Wink

I don't have the final results, but 14 Golds (new record for host and winter games) and about 25 medals overall...probably the most Canada has had ever.  Much to my chagrin, it appears that OTP seems to have had an impact Huh?

What happened to all that good poutine talk?

I am shocked this thread is still going. Isn't it about time we all just start ganging up on Mexico?
