So I'm wanting to request Fallout 3, but had a question about how the DLC is handled.  Would I be able to basically get the GOTY edition, install the DLC than trade the GOTY edition and request the regular Fallout 3 and basically gain the points I lost with Goty edition which is 550 points more than the regular.

not for the ps3 version (as i see that is your preferred platform) since both the dlc and core game are on the same disc.  the dlc is not a separate install.

also, buyer beware on the ps3 goty version, its crazy crazy crazy buggy glitchy.  see this thread where my laments are chornicled.

I'm actually getting the 360 version.  No longer own a PS3, I guess I need to change that.

So otherwise this idea will work with the 360 version?

No idea on 360.

I remember hearing that the 360 version of Fallout 3 GOTY is packaged like Oblivion GOTY.  The game on one disk and the DLC on another, so you should be able to do what you just said.  I'm not 100% sure though.

Can anyone else confirm that this can be done?

To answer your original question, this can be done on the 360 version as the DLC is just on a separate disc and you can install it on you 360's HDD.  You could get the Fallout 3 GOTY 360 edition, install the DLC and play the regular Fallout 3 disc and no problems from what I have heard.

The PS3 version is each one disc, so both version are different.

No clue on 360, but on PS3 there were also different SKUs for the regular edition (at least 2), and saved games were not compatible between each SKU. One of these two SKU saved games was also not compatible with the GOTY edition save system (although Bethesda said they were working on fixing that).

doesnt work i tried it with Oblivion and the dlc only works with the disc it came with which sucked and well thats the way fallout 3 GOTY is set up to they put a different code on the disc so you cant do what you are trying to do.

I will try the 360 method later today (bought the GOTY 360 version on Gamestop used but I already own Fallout 3 (original)).   Will check if I can install the DLC and play Fallout 3 with my original disc.  Will update tomorrow if anyone cares, but from reading gamefaqs, it has worked this way from day one and still should.  (this is for the 360 version only, as stated, the PS3 game is a different stand alone disc and you cannot take the DLC out of that GOTY edition)

Are you talking about the PS3 version?   I just offered mine for trade today, so if you got bumped today, its because of my copy (its brand new too) (and yes, I own the Fallout PS3 GOTY version and just bought the 360 GOTY version even though I owned the original Fallout 3 on 360, 3 copies of the game literally now, long story)

It is.   So glitchy, so buggy, so broken, so infuriating

I miss it. Sad

No, my copy is whole package, brand new, just removed the wrapping and that's it, in perfect mint condition.   And that's also why I am getting rid of my PS3 version (glitches and no patch); that and I am getting rid of most of my PS3 games, mainly a 360 guy, even if a PS3 version of a game might be better of have more content, cannot enjoy playing on PS3 as much as 360, this is personal preference of course, I love my PS3, use it daily but not for games of late.
