dtp11:USA had a hot goalie and Canada had a cold goalie. Big whoop. Canada outplayed, outchanced, and outshot them... if they meet again this tourney, it will almost assuredly be a different story.Congrats on USA's first win in 50 years against Canada. Canada is SO embarrassed.
Would you like some sugar for that cup of black coffee?
cheeznrice: Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the games on CTV as TBay Television changed affiliates (stupid CanWest Global), but I don't know if the blame is entirely on them. There are some holes in Stevie Y's team that are getting exposed and I don't quite think people expected it. They took too many players that had really solid last years, who are playing poorly this year and not enough guys that have played well this year. If they exit early I guess people can say "Why wasn't Green named? Or Stamkos?" considering they seem to be offensively stunted (excluding the Norway game). They left Crosby off in '06, I can't believe they made the same mistakes again. There seems to be no chemistry at all. I don't know how much of that lies with the players and the coaching staff.

If Canada had Brodeur and let's say, Carey Price and Jose Theodore, no one would even question Brodeur starting all games. But now, if Luongo starts a game, he'll have to prove why he started it and not Brodeur. Extra pressure...
3 defensemen had very low play time last night - Pronger, Seabrook and Boyle. I can't really say for Seabrook (he's the 7th d-man), but Boyle and Pronger have been erratic and too slow - in my opinion, other younger defensemen (like Phaneuf) would have been more effective. Green would have been a good player, but his defensive play is lacking and as far as powerplay point man, Weber and Doughty are doing very well. Keith and Niedermayer are also fine. But yeah, remove Pronger and Boyle and put Phaneuf and Green, and I wouldn't blink.
Offense was doing great. 42 shots, can't really blame them for not trying, but Miller was in the zone. The SJ line is doing OK, but I think Thornton needs to pick it up a little - for such a big guy, he's losing too many battles on the boards. Perry and Getzlaf are not doing that good - Perry was lazy racing the puck on the empty net goal, although thanks to Staal, they're not looking as bad as they should. Crosby and Nash are probably the best players on the team, but they need a permanent 3rd man to actually be effective: they've had a rotation of Toews, Richards, Iginla, Bergeron and it's not helping them. Stick to one until the end of the tournament (Toews, imo).
Stamkos, Carter, St-Louis, Lecavalier could have all been in there, but I don't think any of that would have made a difference, unless you do it like the SJ line and bring Stamkos-St.Louis-Lecavalier all together. And that might have been a genius thing to do - having cohesive players together would be an advantage in my book. Richards-Carter-Gagné/Brière... Crosby-Talbot-Dupuis (ok, kidding here).
The score doesn't reflect the way the game was mostly played: offensively and defensively, Canada had the edge. 2 very costly mistakes early in the game made it that Canada was playing chase hockey, rather than the other way around. And in the end, much like that ugly win against Switzerland that Canada didn't deserve, it's the score that matters. Nobody will recall that France had the better game in FIFA World Cup 2006, they'll remember the headbutt and that Italy won.
dtp11:Have you been watching it online at least?
If by that you mean playing ME2, then yes

You know what they say... it's not the shots that count, it's the goals.

Somebody should look at Miller's last 6 games or last month for that matter coming into the Olympics...Something like 3 wins...He may be a hot goalie now, but he sure as hell wasn't coming into the tourney.

Yeah, but overall, if you look at this year's numbers, he is at the top pretty much everywhere (Vokoun's ranking high too)...
Luongo starting against the German. Good call.

I definitely don't disagree and I said all along that Roberto should have been the starter from the get go. Unfortunately Canada feels they owe it to Broduer I think.

I didn't actually watch the game, but I checked facebook afterwards and just about EVERYONE was saying the same thing. You know Canada INTENTIONALLY LOST, just so they can play more :pAlso, don't feed the troll.
Your gamerscore probably makes me laugh.

That's the kind of BS that got Pronger on the team...not to mention 95% of the team that went to Turino. I say we pull a page out of the USA's book and cut this loyalty BS out.
USA - Canada rematch on the way? Should be interesting!
And now Russia and Sweden are out. Looks like it could be a Canada US rematch. It was great watching Canada destroy Russia last night.
Did anyone see the disallowed goal in the US game. The Canadian announcers were driving me crazy on that call. The one guy wouldnt shut up about seeing the puck over the goal line with 0.1 seconds left. Well duh you could see it across the line because the camera was on an angle and the puck was in the air which means the puck only looked like it was in because of the angle of the camera with the goal line. It would have been nice if they showed it from some other angles.
I was watching the Olympic web feed - they only showed the shot from straight above - and had sound turned off. To me it seemed evident as a no goal. Incredible timing though.
