Nope. Just Atlanta to La Mesa, Calif.

There's not really anything I can do about it at this point except feel stupid and wait for my wife to find the $40 UPS charge and yell at me.

We married men are a pathetic bunch aren't we :( :)

So true.

Good news! After getting overwhelming confirmation that I paid far too much, I called the UPS Store and the package had not been picked up yet. I told them to hold it and I ran over there and got it back and got a refund. No harm, no foul.

So now I ask, what is the best way to ship this thing? It is GH III for Wii (boxed) plus a faceplate (also boxed). Someone suggested USPS parcel post, but I've had them lose things via that method, and it doesn't allow tracking/delivery confirmation to my knowledge.

Also, thanks to the mod for editing the title of this thread. It was a little over the top.

I believe USPS recently issued a clarification that video games CANNOT be shipped as media mail.

I hate UPS.

They charge you through the roof with their stupid brokerage and handling fees on cross-border shipments.  That's on top of taxes, customs, and duty fees.

I got charged $90 to have a $100 item shipped to me.  That is ridiculous.

USPS all the way.

It's trackable with USPS you just have to pay for Delivery Confirmation and hold on to your receipt.

agreed: That first estimate was just that -- an estimate. I suspect once they actually got it boxed up, it would have come in closer to the $40 I ended up paying (there was a $2 "fuel charge" on the receipt, for instance). I asked around beforehand and was told UPS would be the cheapest way to go (I'm in Atlanta, their home city, so they're all over the place). I've shipped large stuff via USPS before and been similarly screwed.

avery: Did you ship it in the actual box, or just the guitar and the game? That's kind of the attitude I am taking. It's clutter out of my basement, and someone else will enjoy it when it was sitting untouched in my house. Still....ouch.

I packaged it in a box similar in size to the original guitar hero box.  Quite the sticker shock when they told me the price, but they listed all options, and First Class was the cheapest.

It's got more to do with Canada then UPS, I've sent things to Europe, Mexico and Argentina with UPS and it's never been crazy expensive or had customs issues.  Like I said before the Canadian customs office hates UPS.  Maybe UPS picked on them in highschool or something.  Stick out tongue

It has nothing to do with customs and everything to do with UPS raping their customers on shipments out of country.  On more than one ocassion I have recieved items from the US and each time the duty was only a couple of bucks but then UPS nails a brokerage fee on top of the duty that they keep.  They claim it is because it is hard to get items through customs so they have to do lots of work to get it to clear customs.  They charge a rediculous amount for this service, usually at least half the price of the item shipped.  If the same items where sent through USPS the most they ever charge for the exact same service is about $4.

UPS has terrible company policies and I refuse to deal with them no matter what.

Believe what ya want but I do this for a living.  England, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Argentina, all with UPS never an issue but to Canada with UPS there was always some kind of problem with customs.  My company won't even ship there anymore, it's pretty sad when a package can go across an ocean to a whole other continent with no issues but can't make it 7 hours north across an imaginary line without some kind of problem arising.  Had the same problem with FedEx and Canada, you'd think that since Canada is right freaking there everything would go smooth but there was always some kind of issue.

On the flip side USPS to Canada rarely goes wrong so all I can surmise is that it's a private industry thing with customs since the USPS is government controlled.

On topic :

OP, your best bet is gonna be to take it to the post office and ship it with Delivery Confirmation.  It's your cheapest option and will allow you to have tracking information to protect yourself from any problems may they occur.

I received GH3 full package for the Wii last year and it cost the seller about $12 total. They shipped via USPS.

Im not sure about the Wii controller but I just received this for Xbox360 and the neck of the guitar came apart from the rest of the body allowing it to fit in a much smaller box. Is this possible with yours?

My wife just called me a few minutes ago saying "Did you really just get another video game in the mail?" I've got about 8 games to play now. The wife is not a big fan.
