Well Bioware didn't make KOTOR II and I thought that was awesome, (except for the non ending , that was Lucas Arts fault)

I am cautiously optimistic.  KOTOR was brilliant and new, but Obsidian IMO made every part of the gameplay better w/ KOTOR II, sometimes a new dev can break out of the box with some really cool ideas

I've put over 110 hours into F3 & I still haven't played all the way thru Point Lookout or even started Mothership Zeta...

Obsidian has developed some good stuff.  It was created after Black Isle went under, though I'm not certain how many ex-Black Isle employees are still there.  I enjoyed NWN2, though the combat and camera was wonky upon release, the subsequent patches fixed that pretty nicely.

I'd say I enjoy Obsidian's writing better than Bethesda's.  And I liked Fallout 3's combat, so if they can mesh their writing with the combat system I think New Vegas will be enjoyable.

with the amount of glitches and bugs in fallout 3 maybe its a good thing bethesda's not working on it. although i had read on fallout wiki that it was using the same engine.

I won’t write another word about Fallout 3 and writing and such I have done tons here and in official reviews for a few different sites … but I am looking forward to this if for no other reason than Bethesda *won’t* be writing, which means it *has* to be better written …

Seriously - Bethesda is strong at open worlds, but their writing is some of the worst in the industry.  When you look at the advancement of murky morality systems, in recent years and choices with consequences in a RPG, it is *all* Obsidian (well, and The Witcher).  These guys have the best written stuff since Planescape Torment with the NWN2 expansion 'Mask of the Betrayer'.

Yes I thought the writing of KOTOR II was really strong, just wish they had the time to finish/polish.

While Bethesda writing is not going to win a bunch of awards, I judge it based on other RPGs not great novels, so compared to other RPGs of the same year, FO3 writing is actually top 10%

I compare Fallout 3 to FO 1 & 2 ... and compared to those, as I have said, the writing is middle-school level.  Or even comparing them to 'best ever' RPG's, since that is where the scores would have you believe that Oblivion and FO3 belong ... again, Bethesda has strengths, but story / characters / writing are not them.

But I see your point comparing it to contemporary RPG's ... but then what else was in 2008?  Mass Effect *clearly* has much better writing and characters ... The World Ends With You, remake of Chrono Trigger, Persona 4, and random other stuff ... not exactly much to go against.
