My top 3 PS2 games would easily be MGS2, MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus

I had to stop myself from yessing to hard, because these three were rather nice, although for your son to get a ps2, he may not enjoy Ico or SotC as much. I also give thumbs up to Star Ocean, Till the End of Time, it was Great. The JAk and Daxter Series is also wonderful.

I reccomend for you, good sir, Dynasty warriors 5 or Devil Kings 2, very fun and playable games. Also, Grandia III was quite nice, and heck, FFXII and FFX are cheap enough that you could/should get them both.

I'm gonna have to say Shadow of the Colossus. The boss fights, that's all there is, are truly amazing. I don't know how it's gonna look on a HDTV. Shadow of the Colossus is an 18 hour masterpiece that needs to be played. Others, play both God of Wars, GTA: SA, Metal Gear Solid 3, Psychonauts, those would be me top games.

ICO and Shadow of the Collosus were epic.  Those and GTA III were the only game I ever played.

Definitely Disgaea, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy X-2 (just kidding lol) are at the top of my list. Then Devil May Cry and Soul Reaver games would be next in line.

GTA: SA was my favorite by far.  Also loved:

Ratchet and Clank games 1-3

Jak & Daxter 1-3

Onimusha 1-3

Mercenaries

GoW 1 & 2
