misoleet: I only tip for sealed games.. nothing more. So what if the game arrived promptly, you're supposed to ship it out within the agreed upon deadline (1 day, 3 days, etc). Including delivery confirmation doesn't warrant a tip either because if anything, it's to protect the seller from fraudulent feedback. I ALWAYS send my games out ASAP and ALWAYS include delivery confirmation.. I do NOT expect a tip at all. However, when I send out sealed games, I would APPRECIATE an appreciative gesture via a tip, but again, I do not EXPECT to get one. But yeah, if I happen to receive an extra freebie worth something, or a kind note (I've yet to receive either), I would consider a tip.. but as of now, only SEALED games = AUTO tip from me.

This. Almost word-for-word the way I look at the issue of tipping.
Oddly enough, I both gave and received a tip in the last 24 hours. I gave one to a new user who packed their game immaculately. I received one for sending someone a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360, which made me feel even dirtier than I did when I sent someone a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360. :)
I had someone ask for a tip once. It was after he'd asked for a cancellation after accepting to trade a 100 point game due to he "couldn't afford to ship it right now" plus he was busy and didn't think he'd be able to make it to the post office anytime soon. I said that's fine, but why'd you accept the trade to begin with? He replied that he'd changed his mind, and would instead be shipping it the next day even though he's so busy. I said I'm in no hurry to get it, take your time. He made a big show of how he wanted to go the extra mile (despite being so busy). Then he sends me a friend request, and after reluctantly accepting he asks if I can, I don't know, maybe tip him after all the hard work he's gone through. Funny thing is that I was planning on tipping him, but wasn't so sure after he asked for it. I told him as such, but it was his response that warmed me over. "No worries, as long as you're happy I'm happy." So I tipped him anyway, even though I know I probably shouldn't have, since all the drama and friend request plainly looked like he was baiting for a tip. But hell, anyone that goes through that much trouble for 50 points probably needs it more than I do.
Interestingly, he's apparently since been banned...lol.
And if anyone actually read all that, you deserve a tip too.
On the flip side, I once included an entirely separate game in addition to the one that was requested, and still didn't receive a tip. But the reason I did so was due to his requested game not being in very great condition, which I told him about and he said he didn't care. I have to admit I was still kinda expecting a tip due to the extra game, but couldn't be mad I didn't get one.
Sealed games have always gotten a tip from me, as well doing something extra beyond what is expected. Fast shipping or delivery confirmation alone doesn't equal a tip in my book.
I requested a tip one time, I was sending eye of judgement full package and said that I would send an additional pack of cards for a tip, since the cards were required and they were of no use to me but the guy getting the game might want them. Other than that I have gotten other tips. I think I have given 1 or 2 tips but have never had anyone ask for a tip. If someone did ask though, unless there was a valid reason behind it, like including more than the full package, I wouldn't tip on request. I also don't tip when I get an unopened game. Why do I care if the game is unopened, I am going to open it and play it. i don't understand why people would have unopened games unless they are just flipping them because they bought it cheap and why would that warrant a tip. If you bought a game and didn't play it, well that isn't my fault and why would I reward such behavior. The only other thing would be if it was given as a gift and was not wanted, that is what gift reciepts are for. I never expected a tip except for the agreement on eye of judgement and think they should do away with the feature. Positive feedback is for doing what you are supposed to do, neutral is for coming up just a little short of the expected transaction and negative is for blowing it.
Asking for a tip is the best way to not get one.
It wouldn't bother me - I'd just ignore it. My new policy is that I'm not tipping for anything anymore. Since a good portion of this community can't even be bothered to leave a nice message when you send stuff fast and still sealed, I'm not going to waste my points tipping people anymore.
I tip for stuff that clearly cost more than your average item to ship (CE's, games with peripherlas, etc.), provided that everything is in order, since goozex point values do not generally take into consideration shipping costs.

Exactly, I shipped a sealed copy of wheelman for the 360 to a user and he didn't even leave a nice message or verbal feedback. I'm still mad about that. He never leaves verbal feedback to anybody at all.
I had a guy that requested a game be sent to a third party. After I declined, he got defensive and said he would've tipped if I had just hooked him up.
I have requested a tip once before, and I guess this post will stop me from ever doing it again.
Considering that most people on this site dont tip at all, I dont think it is unreasonable for someone to ask that the buy at least consider a tip. Now if the seller is just fishing for more points without putting forth any additional effort, then he's out of line. If the buyer asked for disk only and the seller is sending full package that is , by definition, going beyond what is required. I think that expecting people to send a shrink wrapped copy when you requested it on a used game site is a rediculous standard to hold someone to to get a tip. That would be like only tipping your waiter if he gives you a steak and lobster when you only ordered a hamburger.
One poster compared it to a waiter reminding you to tip 20%. Thats a bad comparison. It is standard convention to tip your waiter. A waiter reminding you to tip is implying that you dont have the common decency to tip on your own. This is a situation where most people dont tip. A more appropriate comparison would be when there is a tip jar at a food court or at the DJ booth. Yeah you know you have the option to tip the DJ or the cahsier, but lots of people don't, so the jar is just one more reminder that tips are appreciated.
And FYI there is no way to jump que by listing your game as Disk only. Actually it makes it harder to get matched. If you list as full package you could get matched with ANYONE that requested the game. If you list as disk only you can only get matched with people that request disk only. REQUESTING disk only is a good way to jump the que because the D+M and FP people wont get matched with the DO sellers, but you will.

I don't think many people would argue that you have the right to ask for a tip, but many people (myself included) would consider that impolite, and thus be less likely to leave a tip than if you did something above and beyond and made no mention of a tip.
...well considering that the chances of getting a tip on this site are next to nothing unless you are shipping out shrink-wrapped games then I refuse to believe that requesting a tip could possibly hurt your chances. How many of the people that stated otherwise regularly leave tips, or have ever left a tip at all? I know personally, I wouldn't consider leaving a tip unless I got more than I expected. But that would include getting full package when I requested disk only. Even then its not likely because I'm not one of those power traders that has 30,000 points. But if the seller exceeded my expectations and let me know that they needed a few extra points...I would definitely leave a tip if I had the points to spare. But thats just me apparently. I consider EVERY trade to be eligible for a tip. I've only had 1 seller send me more than what I requested, and I actually felt bad because I didnt have the points available to tip them. I sent them a message thanking them and apologized for not tipping.
Maybe its just that I'm relatively new to the site. I've only had about 20 trades total (send and receive) but when I saw that a tipping system had been implemented I automatically figured that tipping for good trades should be standard. You cant hold sellers to the standard of a "for-tips" worker if tipping is not a standard practice. YES it is typically tacky and impolite to request a tip, but thats because it is usually impolite to not tip. People that dont tip their waiters are considered impolite so it seems especially impolite for a waiter to request a tip. Even in restaurants it is normal for them to REQUIRE a tip under certain situations such as special occasions or large parties.
but why should anyone tip unless they feel like tipping themselves? if you werent going to tip and then someone asks you to, does that change your mind? but it would change my mind the other way if i was going to and then the other party asked me to.
Nothing definitively merits tipping. Even if you get new sealed, it's not like you asked for it. Mario doesn't jump any higher in a new sealed version than a used one. Or if it was sent priority mail, so what? If I buy from Amazon and check off super saver shipping, but they send it to me Express and then go, "give us more money, we sent it overnight instead", that wouldn't make sense. You didnt ask for Overnight to begin with.
It's all just whether the buyer feels like tipping, and you can't ever blame a buyer for not tipping.
The only situation where maybe a buyer should generally tip universally (and this is not even steadfast) is when the buyer themself asks something from the seller that would make them have to do something more than they would normally have to, and the seller, just because he or she is nice, complies. I'm not sure what that something would be, but that'd be the situation.

I'm 7 for 49, and I don't believe I've ever sent out a sealed game.
Doesn't sound like "next to nothing" to me.
Edit: Oh, and I've never asked for a tip either.
