Can we play Super Mario Galaxy 2 on an Xbox or a PlayStation?
No?
Then, the Wii's not obsolete.
The end.
Not until Nintendo falls from grace and becomes a third party game developer like Sega, but thats not going to happen anytime soon. If ever. No matter how much I want it to happen.
No matter the amount of pure crap that has come out for the Wii, Nintendo is solid gold right now. The have (and will continue) moving large amounts of DSs and Wiis. Nintendo , for the most part, also creates great first party games.
I don't think a cash in on the whole motion thing by Nintendo's competitors is going to change Nintendo's dominance.
I don't think so...
Well that didn't take long for Sony to fire a salvo at the competition...
I'm really not looking forward to more motion control gaming, but at least the advertising is amusing.

That commercial is awesome and hillarious. Man, they better be able to back this up or they won't hear the end of it. I love the bit about Wii Boxing.
I find this whole conversation amusing. I would venture to guess that the Goozex community consists nearly entirely of hardcore gamers. Therefore, when viewed from this perspective, of course the Wii is obselete and its library insufficient. However, for the average gamer, the Wii's appeal is obvious. Great at parties, a number of ways to game (gamecube, virtual console, Wii) and a few blockbuster titles per year. If that's all you want or (as is my case) all you have time for, the Wii is perfect. Therefore, PS3 or 360 motion controls do not impact this in any way. The only bite that this can put into Nintendo's share is by cutting down on the number of PS3/360 owners who also purchase a Wii for party purposes. However, both companies are getting into the motion game a bit late for this to be significant. However, I don't think it's necessarily a bad move for Microsoft or Sony. Although I don't think it's going to translate into profits now, long term it could provide these companies with an inroad to making a system that does outcompete its competitors.
stoudman: I can't believe that after everything, even after the Wii became monstrously successful, there are still people fortelling the death of Nintendo or their console being "obsolete" because of something stupid like an add-on feature. I recall during the Gamecube years hearing all this talk about how Nintendo was going to go bankrupt and fail as a company. I even heard talk of them being bought out by Sony or Microsoft. In the end this was all just fanboy chatter, but I always found it a tad more unintelligent than most fanboy crap. Why? You're talking about the company that single handedly brought the Video Game industry back from total destruction. I swear, could someone please try and deny that fact? I mean it is about as much of a fact as exists in the universe. On top of that, this is a company that has made billions off of their brilliant and innovative ideas that changed gaming as we know it today. They certainly had more than enough money stashed away to weather the near failure of both the Nintendo 64 and the Gamecube, and now that they've been incredibly successful once more with the Wii, suddenly they "need to step it up or they won't be able to compete"? Since when has Nintendo ever needed to "compete"? They pretty much ARE the industry. Now I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see more emphasis on gameplay and less on how the game is played, but what I am saying is that this is Nintendo you're talking about and they really don't have to do anything they don't want to. They are far safer in the business world than you might assume them to be. They aren't going anywhere any time soon. I could have SWORN they had MORE than proven that just by sticking around through the N64 and Gamecube era, I mean what other company without a major electronic entertainment industry backing like Microsoft or Sony could possibly even HOPE to still be in business after lackluster performances like those? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both consoles, but in the end neither of them were very strong sellers, and they both lacked what the Wii lacks now -- games that you actually want to play for more than a few hours. I wish they'd start focusing on the games and the gameplay again, but in the end they don't have to do anything they don't deem fit to do because they are Nintendo and they rule the gaming universe. LawL. As for Natal, if they haven't fixed anything since E3 then chances are it's still a broken piece of hardware. Sony already ripped off the idea of motion control in their controllers, they just failed to implement it in a way that would be entertaining in any way -- so now they're ripping off the last possible thing. However, if you can't get people to make games for your peripheral (and lets not beat around the bush here, that's exactly what these are) then it's going to fail, and somehow I highly doubt that they will find enough developers to make these peripherals a success. Even if they did, I fail to see how it would impact Wii sales. The same people who want these types of game controls know they can get it from the Wii already, and most of those people who want those controls probably already own one and purchase games for it regularly. Sony and Microsoft are the ones barking up the wrong tree -- that market has already been tapped for what it's worth. Oh, and even if there was even the slightest chance that Nintendo would suffer in any way from either of these peripherals, the fact that they are already working on their next console and will most likely have it out within the next few years should tell you that there really is nothing to worry about. Gah, I just wish this fanboyish type of "THIS COMPANY IS DOOOOMED" bullcrap that just keeps that forest fire of irrational hatred and distrust of different companies in this industry going strong would just.....GO AWAY! Stop being irrational! Stop making things out to be worse than they really are! Not one of these companies is anywhere close to "doomed", so just stop trying to paint a dismal picture that will NOT come true! Angry Stoudman is Angry! RRRAAAH!!

I've yet to see any game that made me think motion control is worth the fuss. This goes for all 3 companies.

Well I did write it three months ago...so...I guess there's no real requirement to read it. Not that there ever was a requirement, but yeah....I'd hope somebody didn't take something I said 3 months ago out of context is all..
In this case I feel like that post is TIMELESS, and says it all when it comes to Nintendo and consumer attitudes toward Nintendo in the past 15 years, but...well....just so long as it's understood that the time period I refer to in said post is indeed the mid 90's to the late 2000's -- more the mid 2000's though, since more people regained their faith in the company after the release of the Wii. It just shocked me that someone could think that the Wii would be obsolete because the other consoles offered motion control....
I'm too used to people foretelling the doom and gloom of Nintendo. At this point it either makes me laugh, or it pisses me off. I was pissed at that point because I was SO SURE that since the Wii had FINALLY proven to the masses that Nintendo was nowhere NEAR "done" in the industry, that there wouldn't be anyone ignorant enough to try and suggest at this point another "doom and gloom" scenario for Nintendo. Face it, they lasted throughout a decade of poor sales, they now have much better sales, and even if their sales completely tanked, they still have enough bank to last another 10-20 years in the VG market whether they produce anything that any one living being on the planet wants to purchase or not.
Being that their name alone still sells incredibly well, and did before the Wii even came out, I'd hazard a guess that if there is any company that will outlast them all in Video Games, it's Nintendo.
They ushered in a new era of gaming that made the games of today possible. They saved Video Games from certain death with a freakin' plumber.
They are miracle workers.
The idea that they will fail....is tired, and has absolutely no evidence to support it...so please...IF ANYONE has even an INKLING of arguing that NINTENDO IS DOOOOOOMED....please...learn your history, shut the hell up, and respect yo grandaddy son.
....ugh...I just went on another massive rant...
My bad.
For the latest news on Games, Movies, and everything geeky!
Wii is already obsolete in terms of hardware performance. As a gaming system it has it's place in the market, and should retain that place even after the PS Move and Natal are released. Nintendo still makes some of the most unique and fun games that you can't get on any other system. However, they may have to make a price drop to keep up sales.
I own an Xbox 360, and as of right now, I have no plans to buy Natal. I play games to relax, not jump up and down and swing my arms like a monkey. I hope MS doesn't make it a requirement to play some of the future AAA titles.
sillyphilly: I've yet to see any game that made me think motion control is worth the fuss. This goes for all 3 companies.
This is true. Aside from the niche that Nintendo has paved the way for (gimmick games catered to casual gamers) all we see from anyone is tech-demos with nothing concrete to follow. I'm sure that Sony and Microsoft will (if they are smart) release Sony Motion and Project Natal with games that are geared for the "hardcore" gamers, but will they be any better than, say, Red Steel? The first wave of games, probably not and unless they really force Sony and Microsoft respectively to produce quality game experiences with these new controllers, it will fall into the same category as the Wii and third party game developers will have no reason to learn how to truely master the tools to make better games.
To me, it seems all the responsibility is on Sony and Microsoft's shoulders to make quality exclusive titles for each system that show people like EA, "Hey, this is what we expect for our product. If you can't make games on this level, then keep making titles for the Wii".
Nintendo is too busy swimming in an olympic-size swimming pool of money to worry about Natal or Move.
