I'm thinking on PC myself, but they're mostly the same so I doubt there's a difference, but yes, COD2 definitely deserves a spot up front, if not the forefront.

I can't be terribly decisive on it though, as the original on PC was a big thing at the time, and we all know how well 4 did.  3 and MW2 were meh, but I can't discount W@W because I think I've spent the most time on it across them all.

All that said though, I wouldn't dock you for putting COD2 at the top, it was a fine game indeed.

MW2 is by far the best CoD game. Don't listen to what any bitter PC fans say. *Shifts eyes to Kenny* BY the W@W sucked really really bad. Most people will agree that W@W felt like a step backwards from MW, but I think its more like it fell down the entire staircase.

lol...some of your Xbox/PS3 brethren feel similarly about MW2 so don't just pin it on me. COD2 is easily put above MW2.

W@W took what was good from 4 and put it back in WWII.  I can't speak for the console experience on W@W, but it was, and still is solid on PC.

imho this is the best call of duty in the series so far, it upsteped every other game and brought new things to the table.  i agree that cod2 is what really sot the series rolling and mw1 really helped this game work mw2 is the best of them all.

Seriously.  There's no way in the world that COD2 could/should be put ahead of MW2.  Maybe for it's time it was great, but there's no comparing the two now. COD2 should be ashamed they share a name with MW2.

I'd say that most COD iterations (short of 3 maybe) brought more to the gaming world's table than MW2 did.  In fact, MW2 took some things back.

Current release hype aside (and my personal hatred for the title), I'm looking at the COD franchise that I've supported as PC gamer from day 1.  Having been with the series the whole time, MW2, flair or not, isn't the best title, albeit the best selling.

Who knows what the next iterations in the series will bring, but the decision is as easy to make now as it will be looking back on it when we're all playing COD 11:  Recent Warfare 3 (This time play as the Nigerians as they battle the invading Mexican forces).

While I respect your opinion on the rest of the COD games and besides the fact that your hatred for MW2 is well known, its hard to take your opinion seriously when you haven't played MW2.

The game definately has some issues and I haven't formed a final opinion on the game yet vs. COD4 and I've been playing it for a month now.

For example, I can't speak for W@W because I haven't played more then the SP demo (which I enjoyed by they way. anything with jack bauer gets my vote)

I understand why you dislike what IW has done by snubbing its nose at PC gamers with MW2, but can you really speak for the gameplay?

This is not meant as an attack on you or anything, just curious about your thoughts.

I go back and forth right now between the two.

The first COD was special (I tried to go back and play it on XBL arcade the other day, it hurt my eyes.)  COD2 is sitting on my shelf 1/3 of the way beaten, maybe this holiday I will give it a shot.

I still want to play the sp of WaW too.

Between Cod4 and mw2 though, I still need more time.

No offense taken.  I know for a fact my opinion isn't the norm here.  PC gamers here are already a minority, and unfortunately, even some PC gamers bought the game blindly (I enjoy reading their post purchase reports, but still cringe in the fact that they sent money to IW).

Since my original outburst against the title back when the COD4/MW2 thread arose, I HAVE had a chance to play it...albeit on my beloved platform.  A friend of mine blindly bought the game despite my laundry list of cons for PC gamers, with the defense of 'Well.......it's only $60!'.   Must be nice...moneybags.

Anyways, the gameplay overall was solid, I thoroughly enjoyed 4, and MW2 is 4....the sequel.  Not much has changed here.  I think the tactical nuke is retarded, but other than that the additions were good.  Death streaks were a neat idea.

I only played a round or two but the problems I take issue with were full bore on PC.  No dedicated servers meant no community to get attached to, unacceptable pings, a lot of lobby sitting, seemingly short matches, and host migration was a hoot.  The lower player counts took the mayhem that I loved from 4 and put it on the bench.

Granted, I'm a PC gamer at heart, most here are consolers, so my list isn't anything new to most users here.  There's never been dedicated servers (well, limited), pings and host migration are always questionable, and lower player counts are the norm, so there's nothing to gripe about.  PC gamers are on the platform BECAUSE of the addition of these items, namely the getting to know a community personally for me, and to not only remove them, but charge us $10 more than standard retail for the privilege was insulting enough.

The icing on the cake wasn't even from the game but the devs when they insisted it wasn't a port because they took the time to add an options menu and mouse support...

If W@W was a WWII rehash of 4, at least it took 4 to a different theater.  MW2 didn't add enough new to be considered innovative, and in the case of PC gamers, took far more away than it could afford.  Perhaps 'afford' isn't the proper term here, as they clearly knew it would sell well on consoles, and any outcry from PC gamers wouldn't amount to a dead game, so carry on.

COD, a primarily PC franchise, was risen to where it stands now by this community.  Luckily, consolers have had the luxury of taking part in it from 3 on, with 1 and 2 coming later on, but it has now moved to them as the focus, and not for the better.  Hell, even a port would have been fine if they made it a PC oriented port and put in those few key features, but as it stands it's a very poor attempt to consolize the PC base.  According to the devs, it's because gamers get confused with a server browser.........seriously?

With all that anti-MW2 in mind, the gameplay I'll repeat was sound, and I'm not boycotting the game entirely.  It's on my PS3 requests list, moving steadily enough, as I hope to continue the great story from 4 on this one.  However, I'll be damned if I throw any substantial funds at IW for it's ridiculous PC release.  Possibly once it gets to the $10-$15 range just to give it an extended whirl myself, but by that point Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be out amongst a slew of other spring titles that will make it even easier to forget the disgrace to PC that MW2 was.

All things considered, I think it's a tossup between 2 and 4 on which COD was the best, considering gameplay, longevity, and boon to the series.  2 was absolutely stellar, but 4 was a mindblowing new direction altogether.  I imagine 4 would edge out a poll between the 2 (not giving the current hype a chance to override the other iterations), as it is still fresher in the minds of current gamers, and while everyone seems to love 4, the same cannot be said (yes, me excluded) of MW2.
