Just wanted to see if there are any pc gamers who use a controller primarily over a mouse and keyboard.  I've just gotten into PC gaming and really prefer using a controller.  I got a Logitech Rumblepad 2, but can't really figure out how to use it.  It looks like you have to map each individual game with it's own profile, which seems like it could take a lot of time.  I'm thinking about getting a wireless receiver so I can use my XBOX 360 controller instead.  Does anyone have any experience with either of these, or know of a good place to download profiles?  Thanks!

I use the 360 controller for some PC games. Mostly Games for Windows LIVE games. I prefer controller when playing third person shooters, and racing games. The wireless receiver works great, and most games auto-detect the 360 controller and the default controls are usually the best. FPS and RTS I still prefer mouse+keyboard.

I used my 360 controller for L4D last night on PC. After playing it for so long with one, it was tough to transition back to M+K, so I just synced up and had a blast.

I have the rumblepad 2 as well. For a lot of games that will just recognize the generic gamepad like Halo1, SFIV, and I think Halo 2, it just sense the gamepad and buttons 1-12 and there's usually an in game feature to remap them.

The only time you use the Logitech profiler is if the specific game doesnt support a gamepad, but you want it to (I did this with Star Wars Republic Commando) or if it only supports the 360 controller and youd rather it support your controller.  In those case set up a Logtech profile mapping keyboard stroke or mouse actions to specific gamepad functions and then play the game.

Are there any websites out there that have downloadable profiles?  I'm a real noob when it comes to this stuff, so I don't even know how to set it up.  Or even a list of games that are plug and play with a controller?  So far, I've only tried to play FarCry, and that doesn't seem to support a controller easily.  I'm also getting Crysis, and hope that supports it easier.

Crysis youd have to map on a profiler.   It's pretty easy, Just look in game at what the control buttons are on a keybaord or mouse.  Write them down (or change them to keys you can more easily remember).  Then go to the profiler and start assigning functions.  If you want Button 8 to be shoot, Assign that button to be the Left Mouse Button.

Also make sure you assign the right analog X and Y axes to the mouse X and Y axes. And the Left analog up, down, left, right, to W, S, A, D.

But Crysis you my actually want to play with the mouse and keyboard, because there's literally so many functions that you wont even have enoguh buttons to map them to.

I've played Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones with a controller. Those were very easy to set up. If you have 2 controllers, you can play with a friend as well! I mostly like k+m though. I have 2 Saitek P880 controllers, but I would get  xbox controllers if I got new ones.

yeah, my ability to use a mouse and keyboard doesn't really exist.  My PC is hooked up to my TV.  It's an HTPC, so my mouse and keyboard are cheapo wireless ones that I bought.  I really don't want to shell out the money for a good wireless mouse and keyboard.  I'm kind of limited to using a controller, but that's what I'd prefer anyway.
