From everything I've read/heard about this, the co-op is relationship-damaging material. You are far likely to accidentally kill your co-op partners than you are to actually help them through the level.

I just want you to be prepared when you accidentally send your son off a cliff and he asks you why you don't love him anymore.

Here's my top 3:

1. Dragon Age: Origins
2. Uncharted 2
3. Resident Evil 5

Although, Modern Warfare 2 will probably get it....

Without having played L4D2, NSMB Wii, Muramasa, AC2 and barely scraping the surface of DA:O, here are my top 5:

1. Modern Warfare 2
2. Demon's Souls
3. Borderlands
4. Batman: AA
5. Uncharted 2

Almost unfair to even consider a GotY just yet.  So many great releases just came out within the last month, I really haven't had time to digest everything and put it all in perspective.

my vote goes for Sacred 2 because its the only game made this year that I actually kept but Dragon Age was excellent

lol, everytime you talk about Sacred 2 I have to wonder if we played the same game. 

I didn't enjoy that one at all, but I'm glad you did.  Just not enough story for me.

Sacred 2 doesn't need plot to know how to rock...

If Sacred 2 fleshed out it's plot more, fixed a few co-op issues and better explained (or streamlined) it's game mechanics, it would have been a serious GotY contender IMO.  Also, with all the terrible voice acting and tongue in cheek moments, I couldn't tell if it was trying to take itself seriously or not.  For me, it was still it was one of the better pure hack-n-slash games in recent years

There was a story to Sacred 2? It isnt that great of a game but there is lots of replay value to it and that is what I like to base my GOTY choice on. This year there was nothing that really hooked me at all to come back and want to replay and this was the only game that I chose to keep on a shelf to collect dust and not trade away after a week so I would pick this as winner by default - even though I know it totally sucks and fails in almost every way and I dont even play it because its not very fun. Yet it stares at me and taunts me to finish it with single every achievement (which will never happen). I hope that makes sense.

Man, these are tough, because I tend to play older games.  My backlog is huuuuge!  Out of the games of 2009 that I've had the good fortune to play though, Batman: Arkham Asylum easily fit the bill for me as my #1.  This was the 2nd superhero game I enjoyed this year (Wolverine being the 1st) and both were great, but Batman just worked so well, from nailing how it felt to be Batman, to the atmosphere and voice acting,  and everything about it just felt top notch.  This game gave me a new appreciation for Mark Hamill's talents as an actor (just a great characterization of the Joker, wish I had seen some of the animated stuff now and probably will).  This is one of my more memorable games period, let alone for 2009.  I can't wait to get my hands on Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 though to see how they stack up.  I wanted to like Red Faction and put it up here, but something about the game just didn't work for me and I got bored really quickly.  I guess it just felt tedious.
