My Thoughts:
80's oddball comedies are always pretty entertaining, just because of how weird they are. This one was pretty good, though I wouldn't say it's one of the greatest. The films best gag was the double room breakfast scene. It was probably the most original part of the film and I thought it was hilarious. Lots of great music in this movie as well.
If you like this I'd recommend Weird Science and the Bill and Ted movies.
I understand the group of people that enjoy this style of film making from this specific era, but I personally hate it. That said, this was reasonably OK for what it was. It is hard for me to go into more detail than that, because almost anything I would critique would be what its advocates love about it.
That said, I think igorp would love this little movie called "The Losers," about a biker gang that goes to fight in Vietnam... on their bikes. Probably impossible to find though. For some reason IMDB has it titled "Nam's Angels" here.

Finally! My thoughts on this film may confuse you. Let me start with the cinematography. Wow. He lingered on shots for just to long, always made it obvious when it was on a sound stage by filming in one direction, and none of it would captivate you more then the script or humor. This makes it one of the best filmed movies of all time. How? Go back and watch any 50s or 60s B-movie, and I promise you it will be the same. I bet Badat knew more about film technique than anyone I've met, maybe even my film teacher!
Now, I resent that the dual-kitchen part was THAT original. I mean, the way they filmed it seemed more 50's/60's film than it ever really was. But I can swear that I have seen identical lives in spit screen in other films. It was still funny. Which brings me to the humor. It's entertaining and never feels like it sacrifices anything to be 50s humor, but it would still fit into a film of that era. Long story short, it's funny and it works.
The story was pure B-Movie material.I mean, a disgruntled nerd turns Surfers into leather-wearing zombies by using his beautiful girlfriend to lure them into drinking his spiked Cola. Can you get any cheesier? Maybe so, but this is golden to me. Regardless of it's purposely second rate story, it's a pretty cool idea. As great as it worked in this satire, I'd like to see it remade, maybe just trying to be a fun, original comedy. No really. DON'T LAUGH AT ME!
Overall this is a really fun movie that does satire right, and I highly reccomend it.
Oh, and Eddie Denzeen is a total badass.
MY TACO IS BIGGER THAN YOURS!!!!!

Agreed!
Throughout the whole movie I kept thinking "ooooh, so this is where the inspiration for Mandark came from". LoL.
This movie surprised me, because with it's lack of availability and how forgotten it had become, I didn't expect it to be any good at all. However, there were so many memorable lines and moments in the movie that I slowly became sold. It's weird, it's quirky, there's gratuitous boob shots, the sound effects are hilariously bad, the writing is so bad it's good, and the way it was shot was unlike most films nowadays. Regardless, what did bug me was the night shots in the "ocean", particularly on Youtube you can't make anything out, and I'd imagine even on a crystal clear picture perfect version of this film you'd still be hard pressed to figure out just exactly what is going on in these scenes. I loved that they tried to make it look serialized even though it's the only film they did in the "series". Put simply, I think I would reccomend this to friends simply because it's so bad that it's funny. This film needs some MST3king to round it out, but I had fun regardless.
For the latest news on Games, Movies, and everything geeky!
I actually really enjoyed this one and the dual kitchen scene was hilarious. However i thought everything about this movie was hilarious. Overall just a perfect type of movie for me.
I have to say that I kind of enjoyed the movie. It was really stupid, ridiculous, and cheesy, but that's what made it appealing. I agree with some other reviews on this movie that you need to turn your brain off and just have a few laughs. The story's not supposed to make any sense. Sure some may be thinking, if Menlo is smart enough to make machines that turn nerdy women beautiful, or guys into girls, or make a soda that turns people into Motor Oil drinking zombies, why wouldn't he just fix his own "problem". Even the whole story behind his revenge is just silly.
I didn't really care too much for the dual kitchen scene though. I actually thought it was kinda annoying when they were talking at the same time. I also thought that the eating garbage shot was a little too long...
I was also wondering where the heck I had heard Eddie Deezen's voice before. Now I know that it was his voice they used for the nerdy kid in Polar Express, and I remember him best for supplying the voice for Mandark. For some reason, I thought he was in revenge of the nerds, but surprisingly he is not.
Overall I enjoyed the movie, thanks for suggesting it!
This movie was like watching a mix of Midnight Madness, Strange Brew and Return of the Living Dead II...on PCP.
What else do you have on Beta Max?

Zenverse:I also thought that the eating garbage shot was a little too long...
I forgot about that.
Yeah, it could've done with less garbage.
This movie could have been much better with a guy and 2 robots making fun of it but it was still a pretty decent movie. The garbage scene did go on for a little too long but it made me laugh at first. The part that sticks out in my head the most though was when the 2 main characters were with the 2 topless girls in a shack and someone threw a grenade in there and it blew up in a huge giant explosion and no one got hurt haha.
If you want to see another cheesy movie with Eddie Deezen watch Mystery Science Theater Laserblast. Its about a bullied boy walking through the desert who finds an alien lasergun and so he goes around and shoots stuff with it (inluding those who wronged him) while the claymation Turtle Shaped aliens who lost it watch what he does from space. Eddie Deezen plays a bully who picks on the main character. Its very cheesy but fun like many MST3K movies. Its also available right now on instant watch.
I forgot about the grenade scene. That was also pretty funny.
I shouldn't watch these movies so early in the week.
