I plan on seeing it.  The first one was amazing and one of the few movies I am willing to watch more than once.  I doubt there is any way this can live up to the first one but if it sucks oh well the first one will still be pure awesomeness.

Well, I rewatched the original Saturday night (technically Sunday morning...1-3am) and went to see the new one at 1pm that day.  Granted, I'm not a hugely critical movie critic, so you may have to take my review with a grain of salt, but my personal opinion of the movie is that if you loved the first one, I don't see how you couldn't enjoy this one as well.

Admittedly, I went into the theater with a few reservations, concerned with some of the replies earlier, and others questioning if one needed to be made at all.  As the movie began, I felt myself waiting to be disappointed, angry to see a ruining in progress of my beloved original film, but this never materialized.  I quickly fell into the passenger seat of another saints joyride and loved it. My only qualm is about 85% into the film I had to bolt for a sec as I drank one of those huge drinks by myself and had to take a leak!  lol.

I had a few concerns with the need for a new sidekick addition, the reasoning for their return, and how the new action/hit scenes would be handled.  All was well.  The plot for their return was plausible enough, the new sidekick was absolutely hilarious, and the hit scenes were just as intense, amusing and memorable as the original.  Even the new FBI detective was spot on, though I wouldn't have minded seeing Dafoe again in that role either.

The only cons I can take away from the film are the following:

- The violence seems to have been toned down a little.  The R rating the movie acquired is surely for the language in this one, though the violence is still plentiful.

-  No boobs.  Not that there were many in the original, but we did get one closeup used to comedic effect in the original.  This one just has a few cameos of man ass....

-  Open ended ending.  While I praise the creation of this sequel, and would readily watch a third, I'm disappointed I may very well have to wait another 10 years to see it, since this release was just about as subtle as the last one.  Here's hoping some killer DVD sales get the wheels turning for a third one before 2020.  I know I'll be buying this BRD day 1.

So, if you're lucky enough to have a theater in the area showing it still (especially with the New Moon plague about), see it while you can.  Thankfully, four theaters in this county were playing it still, a luxury I wouldn't have had in my hometown NY, so you're mileage may vary.  Overall, this was a worthy sequel to the original, one with enough violence, laughs, and drama to get me riled up for a third.  In fact, I kind of want to see it again.

So I just saw this last night, and I don't get where all the negative reviews are coming from. I thought it was a great movie, and with that ending there has to be a 3rd one made.

I did my best to read the reviews without any bias, but ALL the negative reviews I read seemed to have no meat to them (verified once I saw the film).  Most of them were pretty much 'I didn't like the first one, so this one was even MORE crap' without any real reasoning behind it.

Personally, I loved the film.  Pumped to get it on Blu Ray.  I won't be fooling around with Goozex on that one.

  • Terrible, rude hack of a director. (Watch the movie Overnight, interesting doc. about him)
  • Edited badly
  • Shot badly
  • Badly acted (except for Dafoe in the first, even though he didn't put out that great of a performance)
  • Mindless

Seriously, this may be the first time I've ever seen you say anything negative about a film.

Only bad stuff I've seen about it are from people who A) hated the first one, which I can understand, but why rant and rave about the second one if you hated the first one? or B) hate the director.   I don't let my opinion of a director make me hate a movie, sorry.

That being said, it is finally playing in my town, but at the crappiest theater here.  So I'm just gonna wait for a dvd/BR release.

I'll attribute it to some sort of illness.

Really?
I dislike a lot of movies. Usually the bad ones.

This being said, I can understand the appeal of Boondock Saints - its not like I think you're stupid for enjoying it or anything. Just not for me.

*Edit: Oh and Kevlar, after rewatching Slumdog, I agree with you more. I still think it is well done, but it definitly didn't deserve best picture - although I agree with the director win.

Are you imply there are other reasons why kevlar51 is stupid?  Kinda harsh words, no?  Wink

Not really no.  When you know the man behind the 51 vests of kevlar its not really harsh words at all.

I haven't seen Boondock Saints in years. I was a big fan of it nine years ago, but I was in high school/college then and my friends and I all had different priorities in our movies than we do now. I've since seen Overnight, and I'm sure that would taint my opinion of the movie if I went to watch it again.
