This is technically a limited time offer, so I put the thread in that section.

Anyways, seems the BC2 PSN beta starts late tonight (or tomorrow if you're on the East Coast like me) at 11PM PST.  I saw a thread in passing discussing the matter and decided to head over to fileplanet myself to try and nab a key.  I had no problems acquiring one, and hopefully, if interested, you too can do the same.  The link is below:

Pretty pumped for this game, though I've already got a preorder lined up for PC, I'll jump at the chance to play it anywhere.  This game should be the answer to my recent 'divorce' with IW.

lol.  DICE actually used IW's terrible decision to bolster their own title.

I actually got my key from gamestop over a week ago, but I couldn't activate it till yesterday.  Still need to try it though....

Yea, given the lateness of the opening of beta, I too haven't tried to activate the key yet.  It should be live now though I'd presume.

Has anyone gotten to play this yet?  I poked around on it a bit and I find it awesome.

Gorgeous looking shooter with some pretty neat destructible environments, but admittedly not everything is destructible as one might think on a quick glance.  Generally the fully destructible buildings are the attack point ones, of which there are 8ish in a level.  Still cool. 

I have however, been surprised by a few things that DO destroy, things in other games are considered cover. 

A wooden fence was one example; I plinked a few shots at some guy on an exposed third floor and took 'cover' behind the fence to reload.  I was quite startled to hear and see a fully automatic machine gun shred the fence in front of me and tear his fire my way, destroying both the fence and myself.  Cool, but bad.

Another was Kenny being super sneaky up a line of rail cars as an Engineer.  Rumble Rumble Rumble!  Is that my stomach, or a tank?!  It appears to be a tank...this time.  I fire a shot into its treads and quickly hide behind the boxcar, sure of my impending victory against this iron behemoth.  However, a tank shell quickly ripped through the box car, destroying its frame, and my face.

Lastly, I'm a sniper covering the entrance point of the 'allies' pinning them down with fire.  Well, I must have killed the wrong fellow, a fellow with a tank friend, for he began to fire at me.  I laugh as my sandbag wall and concrete structure shield me from most damage....that is until the building collapsed out from under me and I died...

 

Other than that, there seems to be a slew of weapons and gadgets to play with, the game is very quick to find a game to play, and leveling a character is always amusing.  I'm also glad they gave the medic a machine gun...merging my two favorite classes (support and medic). 

The only shortcoming I could see with the title is unfortunately one that's likely to stay with the PS3 and 360 versions; no prone.  I can't count how many times I though to myself 'Prone would be nice...' before getting my head shot off.  Priceless as a sniper, but even useful when you want to stay under some cover that seems to cut off at shoulder height when crouched.  I really hope the PC version has prone; this simple stance changes quite a bit.

Hopefully some of you had a chance to get a key and play!

I can't believe I forgot to mention that.  That was the first thing I thought, to a T.

The ambient sound in the game is all generated from other player's actions.  There's a lot of automated yelling but it fits well with the war atmosphere.  There were a few instances, generally after a successful attack that pushed the enemy back, that there was an unsettling silence on the battlefield, only to be cut short by the next volley of gunfire. 

I was so encompassed by this that when I was through with my initial playthrough, I asked myself 'WTF?  Why is the TV so loud...?"  lol.
