It's really not all that surprising. They're marketing this as a lot more than a gaming machine. Perhaps they're trying to generate some sales with some of the traditionally non gamer segments in the way the Wii has. So perhaps they actually do get it - that a far larger percentage of the population than not don't give a crap about online gaming. They're still miles ahead of the Wii in this department, which stands a decent chance of being the best selling console of all time before all is said and done.
Hmm. The 3.1 update doesn't seem to be live for me. I just tried to update and it said I already had the latest (but that's 3.01)

It's mandatory if you want to play live. I don't see your problem though. The update takes like, 2 seconds, and you don't have to use it. It's just for those of us that use facebook frequently. I'm definitely gonna give it a shot.

No problem just the if it's not broke don't fix it aspect. You always here people complaining this update broke this or added this that i don't like blah blah blah. If im comfortable at a version and not forced to update i would just rather not.

Done. Looks like that one snuck in around FW 3.0 with little fanfare. Seems it has a few bugs to work out still with specific games.

Cross-game chat and a universal party system hopefully show up sometime in the next year....maybe...if they're not too busy integrating MySpace and AOL/Yahoo IM.
Anyone know if the 3.10 update is live yet? Any bricks out there?

Does cross game chat open your conversation to everyone in the game? For instance, if we are both playing CoD, and you are talking to someone else, do I hear you, you and him, or what? That sounds a bit annoying, having some yahoo talking about his horrible day while someone on my team is trying to tell me to turn around and shoot the guy standing behind me.

If you have a cross-game chat open with a friend on another game, that discussion should be private away from any team chatter in either player's respective game - even if playing the exact same game. Then again, Sony may find an odd way to implement it that crushes my theory.
I thought the same as you until someone on another site mentioned the endless chatter. Hopefully that guy didn't know what they were talking about, that would be the LAST thing I would want to hear.
I bet this goes live tomorrow since PSN updates and PS Store updates typically occur on Thursdays.
Its nice, but still need cross game chat and invites, then I might consider not playing my 360 ever again.
