Does this follow the Super Mario World game or something else entirely?  I loved me some super mario worlds.

I haven't played on the Wii much in the past month or two though, so I'm uneasy about buying a title...but....super mario world...

I love super mario as well but i don't mind if it follows super mario world.  The gameplay alone is what's drawing me into this and i was SUPER excited to see this pop up on my kids xmas list, def one he'll be getting.

Are there more levels, or just (just in the best meaning possible) the 126 original ones.  People mentioned other suits and such so I'm sure they added something.

And how does multiplayer work on a side scroller like mario?

You play at the same time and from what I've seen it plays the same as if for example the way Contra does when you have two people on the side scrolling screen at the same time

It's been a while, but IIRC, there are some points in SMW, jumping 'puzzle' sections, that I'd not want to be 'tied down' by a co-op member holding the screen back, or conversely, pulling it forward too fast.

I guess it's probably just something I'll need to play to figure out.

I'm not sure if it's just like SMW.  Based of the title it's called new super mario bros. instead of being new super mario world......

Quite true.  The box cover just screamed SMW to me so I guess I just made the connection.  I still wouldn't mind trying the title out though.

So.. if I were to use my existing $40 credit, I could get this for $7 and get another $10 credit? Tempting. Very tempting.

So I went ahead and did this. Essentially, getting the game for free.

Thanks for the heads up, Spooon!

Yeah I purchased Brutal Legends (w/ an extra $10 coupon) which i later traded on here + a few other games and got the $40 coupon. So actually in the end the new super mario brothers came completely free and I got goozex points and an extra $10 coupon for future purchases.

The game is pretty good so far. Played it for the first time last night with a friend. Don't compare it to SMW because they are not at all the same type of experience. This game is very similar to the DS game, but the added elements that come with co-op play, make this game a very different type of mario game and an extremely hilarious experience.

Well I still haven't delved too much into it but it feels like Mario 3 and SMW had a kid and this is what popped out.  I finished the first half of the first world fighting one of the little bowser dudes.  It's the castle stage where you have to jump on his head three times while the platform is tilting back and forth.  The stages are obvious throw backs to earlier games (with the begining of the very first stage being SM1's first stage) but with some changes here and there to make it feel fresh and new.  It even has a little extra mode during stages where you can back to one you've played and "save" a toad guy to unlock a toadstool hut and get items.

As for multiplayer, the wife is playing this weekend weather she likes it or not Devil because I want to try it and I know she'll have fun with it.  If you watch the video review over at Gametrailers.com it looks like massive fun.

It's more of a mix of Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World, with some other elements (Mega Man 2) sprinkled in.

A LOT of the levels are VERY Mario World esque: Koopa Kids; Koopa Castles; going on a chain linked fence and punching (only in Mario World); the spiny water enemies only found in Mario World; that annoying "block snake" that's in Castle 8 in Mario World. etc.

Two questions:

1) Is this deal still going on?  Or maybe I should wait and see what comes down the Black Friday pipe?  I do still have my $40 credit on Amazon.

2) Is this game local MP only, or can you play online with others?

I'm assuming yes to local MP.
