I had a game on my active request queue that I should have taken off weeks ago (I already own a copy now), but it has been requested.

I've PMed the seller asking him to reject it, but is there a way I can just cancel it myself?  Or is there a way to not auto-request?

Other book and disc trading sites I used have a system in place where you are notified of a match and are given a day to accept the trade or not.  Thanks for your help.

If you messaged him, that's all you can really do.  If he doesn't accept the trade, you are ok and can delete it,  just be sure to set it to put it on hold when timeout happens, or be ready to delete it as soon as possible.  But if he accepts it, its another story. Once it gets matched up and the seller accepts it, its up to him if he wants to cancel or not.   You are in charge of queue management on your end.  So if he accepts it and sends the game, not really his fault and you have to accept it.  Sorry, but keep a close eye on your queue.

Goozex is not other sites. It is up to you as a buyer to ensure games you no longer want are taken off. You have done all you can to request the seller to not accept. But they are under no obligation to accept your request.

If you're not sure if you want something, or you know you'll want it, just not right now, then put the item "On Hold." The Seller will not be required to accept your cancellation, but most will if it's a fairly quickly trading game.

Having the item in your "Active Requests" is your confirmation that you want the item. If you don't want it, then move it out of active status.
