I have a 120GB Elite, and about 35GB free. Most of it is taken up by demos, game installs and Rock Band songs. Even though its "almost full", I can't say that the size has ever restricted me. I rarely delete stuff; if I cleaned it up, I'd probably have more like 60-70GB free.
all of it
I've got the 120gb. I think there's about 40gb left on it. I've got roughly 8 games installed & some DLC.
jrstriker12: I have a 60 gig and I think I've used about 20 gigs. However, I haven't saved any of my gamed to the HD (I should - I think I'll put FIFA10 and MW2 on there tonight) and I don't have any paid DLC - just some demos. Honestly, I'd byuy the 360 with the biggest HD you can afford as it's cheaper buying it with the package. Buying a stand-alone HD for the 360 is VERY expensive.

It was cheaper for me to buy the MW2 package and get the 250 gig HD and upgrade my launch 360 than if I had bought an extra controller, new HD, and a repair to my 360 whenever it finally kicks the bucket. :D Plus I got MW2.

I thought about buying that 360. But I've got a Jasper w/120gb HD, so I couldn't justify it....looks badazz though...
I have a 120 GB HDD and have just over 50 GB free.

I have a 20gig and it's not nearly as much as I want...Unfortunately, the markup on Xbox 360 HDDs is ridiculous. You can get a 1 TERABYTE (That's 1,000 gigabytes guys) hard drive for $105 at newegg.com
I need just about every MB of my 20 gig
I opted to go for a 120 GB drive based on the feedback here. Wasn't about to get jacked by Microsoft for $140 for one though. Ended up getting a used one off of ebay, it's OEM, seems to work well enough.

Nice. I have a 120GB and I don't know how I managed without it. I tend to install my games and I tend to play multiple games at once (and never finish any ) so the 120GB gets used.

I have about 40GB left on my 120GB HDD
Yeah, I've already got about 45 GB or so legitimately installed to the thing, and have a couple other games on the way to install as well. The game installs are a lot larger on this than the PS3 because it does the entire disc, so I could definitely see the need for a larger hard drive on this than the 60 GB I've been accustomed to. Took almost 30 GB of space just to test/install Lost Odyssey.
I've got 74 gbs left on my 120, but I don't have ANY games installed. Currently playing Mass Effect and NHL 10, plus working on Fallout 3, so I figure that drops me down somewhere near 60gbs if I installed those 3.

You do realize there is no need to install every single game to the HDD. Some games actually perform better if not installed (Halo 3 being one)

I'm not so worried about performance as I am about the fact the thing sounds annoyingly loud when reading off of DVD. And in addition to the sheer volume, it just sounds like it's doing mean and nasty things to the disc that's in there. After hearing that these Jasper models are supposedly quieter than the previous ones, I have no clue how you Xbox guys don't view this as a serious nuisance.
I mean even when I was installing these discs which should yield more steady and smooth movements I thought something was wrong with the fan in it or something - I'm trying to figure out what this ridiculous buzzing sound is. To me it sounded like a PC fan when the bearings are starting to go, one of those really big PC fans. And sure enough, the install completes and it sounds normal again.
