I'm in, though I can't think of any movies that I want to see or see again that I haven't seen/ own already, but maybe this will knock off some of those "classics" that I meant to watch are on my netflix queue, way down the list, will watch one a year, maybe. Taxi Driver is an example, I even received it on Netflix once and sent it back without watching it after about a week. I hated/ still hate Raging Bull, btw. not really apropos, but I hate how that movie gets rave reviews all the time and it was almost impossible to watch until the end for me.
I think you're going to find a highly opinonated well media versed group that's going to be hard to please, if not impossible. doesn't mean i think it's a bad idea, just have to have a lot of pssibilities so everyone can find one they can agee on.
here's 3 movies that I own that 1. not everyone has probably seen, 2. are interesting at least, obviously I like them enough to have them around and 3 are bizarre in some fashion, good for discussion
1. The Machinist
2. Dog Soldiers
3. Seven Pounds
new releases would be a good way to go, most people don't catch every new movie in the theaters, especially with 10 +$ tickets, only problem is access, I don't always get my first netflix se;lections for weeks sometimes I have to wait, like for UP right now, very long wait, don't have the streaming capability at the moment.
kwaz28: I'd be interested in participating on a recurring basis, but only if the chosen movies are subtitled... what kind of movies did you have in mind?

Anything that fits within that week's guideline.
If it turns out that the movie for one week isn't subtitled, you don't have to worry. I wouldn't know how to check, otherwise I would make that a requirement to help you out.

Watch Taxi Driver.
It is incredible.
I haven't seen Raging Bull, however. I do have it in my possession right now, though.
I think we have enough people to set this thing in motion, even if some of you aren't sure you can participate week to week.
I'm going to make the official topic and then choose who will pick our first movie.
This is exciting.
Sure Im down.

Count me in! As the end of Fall semester draws near, I have increasingly more free time... Movies are a great way to spend said time, IMO!
Well like I said, it's still in my netflix queue, but after Raging Bull, I was a litle wary of classic DENiro. I'm a fan mostly, and I really like Jodie foster, though she did The Brave One recently which was fairly unwatchable. more of a political statement than an entertaining movie that one. Raging Bull is great if you like long, painful make you want to kill yrself dramas. having said that The Machinist is not a happy movie by any stretch. by all means watch it (RB) , but don't be afraid to turn it off if you find you hate it after a half hour or so. I have a half hour test rule, very few movies fail that epically. the last one I can recall was the Underdog movie a little while ago.
I hope horror is included in the categories, and animated. movies based on books is a good one, lots of variety possible there. we could do movies that rhyme, The Core and The Score, Serenity and Wall-e, maybe? :)
Add me to that list. This sounds like a great idea!
<3 Movies.
Count me in. I have netflix and a usenet connection sooo... yea movies aren't a problem :D
This is a really cool idea. While I don't know how often I'll be able to participate, I'd like to as often as possible.

I'd like to participate as well. I'm not very good at sticking with stuff like this, but I will try!
Should probably post that the thread is now open.

You can add my name to the list. Netflix is my main source for films. I do borrow movies from my school's library from time to time.
