Hi, I've been looking at getting Mass Effect recently and I only have an offline gaming computer. I've heard that the game makes you connect to the internet to "activate" it and limits installs as well.
How bad is the DRM for this game and can I play it using my offline computer?
Also, how bad are DRMs on some of the other "new" games such as Far Cry 2, Crysis, GTA 4 ...etc?
Thanks!
Check out my musical endeavors!
They're all pretty nasty. I would recommend the Steam versions of all those games because they mostly replace the original DRM with their own, but thet's out of the question. It's pretty much impossible to be a modern PC gamer without DRM and the internet sadly.
There are ways to circumvent the copy protection for all of those games, but they also require internet connections and are probably not worth the effort.
EA had released a DRM removal tool.

Generally the latest SecuROM allows to run the games either:
* Offline with the CS
* Online, with registration, but without the CD
But actually I only have Far Cry 2 on PC from that list, and I haven't even played it yet.
Thanks for the reply. Too bad...DRM's are so dumb. The thing doesn't really protect game anyway. Are there any good games out that don't have really bad DRM's?

What he said ^^ It doesn't look as if you could run that on an offline computer though. :(
