Riku3008:

I just recently started gaming on the PC, so I only have a few must have games.

Borderlands

Team Fortress 2

Half-Life 1 and 2

A fine start indeed.

Going old school PC text and graphic adventure games: anybody remember a game called "Eric the Unready"?  It was hysterical.  And you could type in almost ANYTHING you wanted and it would seem to have a response for it.

Yep, I remember that game..early 80s, right? The Zork series is the one that really got me started on the RPG type games. Of course, I was a young man so I snuck the original Leisure Suit Larry into the house..gotta love that.

How has Deus Ex not been mentioned yet?  That is a must own.  Sure the graphics don't hold up today but I still think it's one of the most well designed games I've ever played.

Another unacceptable miss.  Here's hoping DE3 goes back to its roots.

Indeed.  Invisible War was okay at best.  But it really lost that sense of freedom the original had.  I have no expectations for DE3 though.  If it does go back to its roots I will be a happy panda.

Two more I don't believe have been mentioned:

Jedi Knight II: Outcast - best non-space sim Star Wars game to date

Sacrifice - amazing 3rd person RTS.  Haven't played it in quite a few years so I'm not sure how it has held up.

Not quite THAT old school. Early 90's. BUT it did have a Zork reference in thegame where one o the levels all graphics go away and it becomes just pure text with the opening words to Zork and you have to manually change it back.

I haven't gamed on PC in years, but I played hours and HOURS of Diablo 2.  I had characters that were tediously leveled up entirely in Single Player.  Back in the days of calling my buddy to have him join me by TCP/IP.  Awesome.

Also, Oni, I think it was called?  Anyone play that?  Kind of an acrobatic girl with lots of fun weapons and fighting moves.

I played Ur-Quan Masters a bunch a couple years ago; it's really deep and clever.  Good for those who like RTS resource managing.

There are five games which I think that PC gamers should probably play because they can appreciate them no matter their taste.

The first two are the KotOR games which are fun RPG games with mass appeal because they have "Star Wars" attached to them.  They're great games because of how your choices affect the story while still maintaining enough linearity to convey a theme.

The next game I would recommend PC gamers play is Bioshock.  It's a good example of how decent gameplay and a well conceived narrative make an excellent game.

World in Conflict is an action-strategy game with fast paced multiplayer and more importantly a gripping campaign that rivals that of good FPS games.

Half-Life 2 and its episodes are good games for PC gamers to play because they combine strong gameplay with an interesting world.  HL2 is a game where the story is told through the visuals instead of the dialogue, which allows casual players to ignore it entirely and more discerning gamers to have a terriffic experience.

Also, if you're the kind of person that watches old, slow movies and enjoys them, then you might like Deus Ex.  The story was interesting, but unfortunately that was all the game really had going for it.  The gameplay was mediocre and the voice acting was terrible.

PlusMinus:

StarCraft, CS:1.6, TF2

Play Source, 1.6 is for the people who put so much time into the game when it came out that they can't learn a new one.

Blasphemy!

WIC was a fine RTS though, one I've been meaning to get back into.  The drop in multiplayer was top notch.
