I don't do nearly as much PC gaming these days, mostly because it's a chore to try to keep my system state-of-the-art and I like being able to chill on the couch with a controller.

However, the PC games I've enjoyed recently (even though some of the games themselves aren't recent) are:

  • World of Warcraft
  • Torchlight
  • Warcraft III
  • King's Bounty
  • Diablo II
  • Half-Life 2

The Thief series, though I think the latest one made it to consoles?

Supreme Commander.  Also available on the 360, but platform bias aside, trying to play a game that massive on a console is a joke.  Unfortunately, it's still somewhat rough on PCs, so you'd need something decent to run it.

Currently I'm getting a ton of value from my $15 for Killing Floor, a defend from the horde based game.  TF2 is another gem that's real value can only be seen when played with dedicated servers and extended VALVE support.  Company of Heroes is stellar.

There are plenty of others that aren't passing my mind, but I'm not 100% today so I'm drawing a bit of a blank.  If you're looking for exclusivity, it's something you'll have to look a few years back for, but there are some titles that play better on PC when available elsewhere.

Kind've an older title and it probably won't run well on anything Windows 95 or after, but Police Quest IV: Open Season

One of the greatest point and click experiences you could ever have.  I miss the days of the Sierra cinematic point and click PC titles. (eg. Phantasmagoria, Torin's Passage, Shivers, etc.)

My all-time favorite PC game, that's easy:

Starsiege Tribes. Most unique FPS game I've ever played. High speed, team based combat. Jet packs are an integral part of the gameplay letting players speed through the air and glide (ski) across the terrain.

Has such a huge learning curve, though. I've played for about 7 or 8 years and still suck at "base" (the original, unmodified version). I'm pretty good in most mods, but a solid base player will destroy just about any mod player (even at their own mod). There's just no comparison.

..I suddenly, really want to play. Hmm, maybe when I get home..

Oh, plus the game is a free (legally) download. www.Tribes0.com

Games that come to mind are:

  • Master of Orion 2
  • StarWars: Battlefront II (still have an active servers for multiplayer too)
  • Starcraft+BroodWars
  • Unreal 1 and 2
  • Freespace 2
  • Freelancer (mods oh yeah!!!)

Worth trying if you like Tycoon type games are:

  • RollerCoster Tycoon 3 (get the versions that have all the expansions....really makes your parks interesting)
  • Startopia
  • Sid Meier's Railroads (playing that right now and it gets very addictive)

I used to PC game a lot more than I do now.  The PS3 allows me to play games in the living room so the wife doesn't get annoyed that I am sitting in the basement for hours on end.  Not all the below games are PC Exclusive, but they are all games I played on the PC

- PC Games I Have Loved (since 1995, when we got our first PC) -
Mechwarrior 2 : came with our first ATI card, awesome mech combat that holds a special place in my heart
X-Com UFO Defense
Fallout & Fallout 2 : phenomenal turn based post-apocalyptic RPGs
Diablo & Diablo 2
Starcraft
Warcraft 2 & 3
Command and Conquer 1 & 3
C&C Red Alert
Battlefield 2142
Left 4 Dead
Half Life 1 & 2
The Monkey Island games

Cant believe I forgot the actual Battlefield series.  2 and Special Forces is top notch.  2142 is pretty solid too, but plays a lot like a futuristic BF2 mod.  A must play.

So pumped to see BF:BC2 coming to PC.  A shame we missed the first.

Everyone is mentioning the console and sitting on the couch. Just hook your computer up to your TV and buy wireless keyboard, mouse, and gamepad...works just the same.

Ever since I bought my huge HDTV which makes the TV to PC connection a cakewalk, I've been dying to try this.  Unfortunately, until I get a nicer TV in the bedroom, my wife probably wont stand for it...lol.
