Chambered: Why do people keep saying CoD4 was revolutionary..? Are we just talking about "amongst console games"? I enjoyed the hell out of CoD4's multiplayer, but it wasn't anything special. The only thing that set it apart from other MP FPS was its perk system, but that wasn't revolutionary by any means.

Possibly a revolutionary console shooter, but it certainly was a great direction for the franchise to take, so maybe revolutionary in that sense?
COD4 was big....huge even, and well worth a Top 5 mention. It certainly wasn't my top FPS timesink, but a worthy addition to the COD series.

I agree. My top FPS timesink would probably have to be Unreal Tournament. But CoD4 is way up there.

Other games have similar systems. Perhaps not so obviously, but they are there. TF2 came out earlier and gives you perks based on the weapons you select. Even older TF games had stuff like that.
Other games had pickup items on maps that would provide many of the same types of buffs, health, armor, speed, etc. Definitely the precursor to the Perks system.
I guess to me Perks aren't that big a deal. Before, particular advantages were just tied to specific classes, now, any class can use just about any perk to gain a particular advantage.
I'm not saying COD4 isn't great, because it is a hell of a lot of fun, and popular to boot. But there are definitely two or three other FPS I wish I could play instead (but can't for various reasons).

I'm having a good day when I get to call in a UAV. Though I did get hot ONCE and get a 5 kill streak. Calling in the predator missle was SO SWEET! I should have kept playing with that group, but I was a dumbazz and decided to mess with my unlocks after that match....
Someone did the nuke while I was playing. They were on my team so we won.
I had the Killstreak takes one less kill perk on for a while so I got to jam their radar once on my 3 kill streak. I was so proud.
I wish that they would make matches for the casual player. I am tired of getting shot from players on the other end of the board with a hand gun when only my finger is showing through a window..... I am usually watching the killcams in amazement.

Hehe.. I do that, too. I don't know the maps very well (or at all, in some cases) so I find it interesting to see where people are hiding when they bust a cap in my... head.
Question.. when you use the helecopters and airplanes, are you still on the map and vulnerable?
I ask as on one map (domination), I kept seeing a person on the other team prone in the corner in the grass behind some boxes. It happened twice.. each time I got an easy kill.
Yes you are, that is why you should try and find a place not many people visit.

Not as bad as a friend of mine who swore she saw a item box while driving home. She drove over it and inside was a red turtle shell that she used on the driver ahead of her. Guess this is what you get for playing Mario Kart DS during lunch break every day during High School. XD
