Who would have ever thought that internet gamers would be so weak willed? haha
F'n Pwned!
I'd bet more than half of those are pirated.
I don't really know what PC gamers expected, to be honest. CoD 4 sold under 400,000 box copies by the time that game hit about 3 million sales. That doesn't take into account the Steam versions that were downloaded, though.
But right there, that's 7.5% of sales going to the PC version of CoD4. And IW said that they were shocked by how many copies for PC they had sold compared to how many copies were being played online. Far, far more were playing the game than had purchased it.
You screw over the game makers and that doesn't give them any reason to cater to you. I didn't know about any of that when I was annoyed about them stripping the PC version, as I hadn't been involved with PC gaming for a while at that point. But now, I don't feel so bad for the PC gamers, even though I still love PC gaming.
Sales for MW2 are showing about 12% of the total for PC. 33% for PS3, and 55% for 360.

Pirated versions won't show up on Steam.
Chambered: I'd bet more than half of those are pirated.
LOL! On anther site, when they asked what people should play instead of MW2, I basically said most people will probably get a copy and just "say" they are boycotting.
IIRC - that screenshot if from Steam. Considering Steam's DRM trappings, wouldn't it be kinda hard (maybe even ballsy) to play a pirated version that annouced you were playing this game on steam?
Steam can show what game you're playing, even if it's not a Steam or Steam-registered game.
There's a video out there showing a guy playing online with a hacked MW2, including "wall hack", and reduced recoil. Whether or not it's a legitimate video, I don't know, but it looked real enough to me.
That is why I'm not into the whole 'boycott' thing, because the publishers don't care about a few thousand geeks putting out an electronic signature - they monitor sales and customer service and ... well, not much else. Chances are the PC sales are just fine.
As for me, still loads of playtime in Dragon Age, Torchlight, Borderlands, Farewell to Dragons, and a beta Mac game I'm working on ... as well as Myrtran Wars (PSP), Witches Tale, Drawn to Life Next Chapter, and Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS) ... whew I'm tired ...

Eh, to be honest I was irritated when I found out about how they stripped the PC version down with the multiplayer but after playing it for a while it's really not THAT bad. Obviously I would rather pick my servers and be able to use mods etc etc etc but when ya get down to the gameplay it's still fun. Was playing domination last night 9on9 and having a blast.
I was thinking I wouldn't play much MP since I've been a PC gamer for about 15 years now and am used to picking servers and like it that way. I felt pretty sleighted by what they did and how they essentially abandonded the platform the game broke ground on but from a business stand point I can see why, even if I don't agree due to personal reasons. (that being my want for playing the game the way I'm used to)
Still not as a good as the last installment and matchmaking is anything but ideal, even for console gaming I'm not fond of it, but it hasn't taken much away from the fun factor of the game. Singleplayer is great and while MP is a big step back from a PC aspect it's still fun to play. I doubt it's gonna have the lasting appeal the first one had and I'm sure I'll tire with it much more quickly but it's still good as a bargain title. Had it cost me $50+ dollars I would be pretty upset, especially since it can't be traded due to the use of Steam.
Oh yeah, as for the boycott....seriously? Did they really think that would work? Activision and IW basically gave the big finger to the PC world ANYWAY so what do they care?
I am neither playing nor boycotting this game. But the PC pirates have indeed been pwned at least in terms of how loud they cried.
That being said, day 1 the PS3 servers had issues and were outed as 3rd party crap recently... many parties are at fault in this Pirate/DRM/Dedicated server war going on.
Sadly DRM is winning, but only for big budget games. THe little guy is losing, and the honest consumer is losing. EA/Activision and the Pirates are all winning.
Why is that not surprising that in Games Software, the giant mega corporations and criminals are gaining the most and honest citizens are footing the bill? Art imitates life?
Seriously, people don't know how to boycott these days or something?
lol, awesome image
Have videogame boycotts ever worked? I mean, aside from a group not buying a game becuase of violence/sex/language/etc. It seems that some group always get aggrivated about some games. L4D2, Fallout 3 (on the PS3 at least), MW2. They all had a "boycott" following or group, but I never saw anything accomplished.
