I recently received a PC game I requested and it did not come with the CD key which is needed to play the game. I contacted the sender and he said he is very sorry and did not realize it needed a CD key to play, and says he no longer has the manual which is where the CD key would be. He is trying to find me some CD keys online that work.

What do I do from here?

Thanks

Negative for unplayable, if he can't provide a legit key. Then you can work something out in the dispute process. Maybe send the game back to him and cancel the trade.

I don't see how he can find you a key online besides a keygen, and that's illegal.  So I would really question any key he sends you.

If he wants you to send the game back, he can send you a paypal for the amount of shipping if you have a paypal account. Don't pay to ship it back to him for his mistake.

You should leave a negative for an unplayable game.

How would sending the game back work. Would he pay the shipping?

If he is not willing to pay the shipping, am I at all obligated to ship it back to him?

Also, is there any way to go about this without leaving him negative feedback? I feel like it was an honest mistake on his part.

If he doesn't pay for shipping back, you leave a negative. If he wants he can just cancel it outright and let you keep it. But I'd just leave the negative and let the seller decide what he wants to do about it through a dispute. At worst, you send it to Goozex as proof there is zero cd key (who will reimburse shipping costs with trade tokens), and then he can deal with them.

If I leave a negative, is there a way to remove it if everything gets resolved?

Yes, Goozex can reverse the feedback if it's resolved.

How does that work? Do I just send Goozex an email or something? The FAQ page says "Feedback cannot be erased. The feedback you give is permanent, so be sure to make only fair and factual comments."

If you leave a negative feedback, the other party has the option to dispute it.

When he does, it can then be "Escalated to Goozex" and they will read both sides of the dispute and make a decision.

In this case, if he disputes the negative, Goozex will request that you send them the game. They'll test it for playability, and see that there's no CD key so it's unplayable. They'll reimburse your shipping costs with some trade tokens, and the other user will have the option to get the game back from Goozex (at his cost for shipping).

Thank you, that helps me understand how it works a lot.

Would an ok way to try to go about it be offering to cancel the trade, and send it back to him if he sends me money for shipping?

if you guys agree to cancel, ensure he initiates the cancel or you will lose your place in line.

He said I should just keep the game. I am going to ask him to cancel the trade, but I was wondering how you cancel trades. I can't see any way to do it, so I thought I'd find out and then tell him how to do it in the message I send, since he is pretty new.

EDIT: I just read the FAQ and it seems that in order to cancel the trade, I will need to leave negative feedback and then he will need to dispute it. And since the feedback will be marked as Unplayable, I will need to send the game to Goozex for inspection.

Is there any way to just cancel the trade, get my points back, not have to leave negative feedback, and not have to send the game to Goozex? He has already aknowledged that a CD key was not included and told me to keep the game. I just want my points back and do not want to give him bad feedback since it seemed like a simple mistake on his part.

You won't need to send the game to Goozex unless it gets escalated to them and they tell you to.  So just leave a negative, dispute it and then cancel the trade.
