I know for PC games its starting to happen more and more that a PDF file is included on the disc which contains the manual instead of paper one. Now I don't have any problems with that if it's a simple game (press and shoot) but do you see yourself having a PDF file for a game like a plane simulator where the manuals are usually 200-400 pages. Ya....really don't want to have to look on my screen for that.

Frankly I will always prefer paper when I read something that is more than a couple pages. I'm no fan at all of digital manuals and even less of e-reader types of books.

There's something about a real book, and the printed word, which far outweighs digital books, be they manuals, books, newpapers, or whatever.

The same as I'd vastly prefer an actual book to a kindle or sony electronic reader, I want my real manual, even if I never read it.

I agree completely. I'll always prefer physical mediums over digital...be it game, manual, books, or even music cds.

There was also a good Interplay RPG back in the late 80s early 90s that had a huge book for a manual..Big skeleton on the front of the box..cant remember the name of the game though.

Stonekeep?

Good game, from '95 I think. Never actually finished it, sadly. Version I bought even came with an actual book...like a 100 page novella based off the game. It was even pretty good.

My favorite game of the past was Wasteland, for the Commodore 64, 4 4.5" Floppys that when you went into a new area, would have to put a different floppy in (my buds and me made a drinking game of it, who guessed the right disc asked for didn't have to drink, and since there was only 3 of us, if we were all wrong, we all drank). It asked questions about the manual also.

Ah the good old days. :D

I prefer a printed manual myself, especially for games that have lots of different keys to memorize for different tasks (RPGs, RTS, etc.).  Even though they don't make games like Gunship or whaetever that Jane's Apache simulator game was called anymore for the mainstream, man I could never keep up with the different keys and what they did.  Personally, I could do without them on FPS games or things like Street Fighter 4, but some games really need the manual or cheatsheet that you can keep handy while playing for reference.  I suppose we can always print them off our printers, but I'd rather pay another 2-4 dollars for the manual to be included in the packaging.
