smkymtnkid:When you become angels maybe i'll put some stock into your berating, but probably not...
Well duh angels dont exist so you dont have to worry about that. Ouch did I step on any toes there?
Yes downloading music and movies is illegal but if someone wants to do so go ahead, it is your own personal choice. People that compare pirating to scamming games off of Goozex need to give their head a shake.
I wonder what percentage of people with Ipods have pirated music at least once, I would bet it would be 80% or more.
Anyways pirating is not legal so dont go into details about it on here and dont admit to it. It is fine to state your case as to why you think it is fine or why pirates are bastards but just by discussing it we are walking a fine line.
timpysan:Just a quick reminder, people. discussion of Illegal activities - no matter how you personally feel about them - is not allowed on the Goozex forums.
Discussing your opinions on illegal activities is fine but when you start talking about how to do these illegal activities or that you do them then you have crossed the line.

It's not as different as you think.
EA just laid off over a thousand people. I am friends with some EA folks and honestly I don't even know if they still have their jobs or not. I haven't asked them yet. Yes, if you pirate an EA game, you are ripping off those folks. As far as I'm concerned, that's worse than scamming people on Goozex, since I don't know any of you guys personally.
Renaissance 2K: I traded out most of my movies when the service launched, but I don't plan on doing it regularly, and I don't plan on requesting any movies. Compared to games, it's much easier to track down movies at dirt-cheap prices, so it's not worth using points to obtain them.

Pretty much how I feel. I used the service to unload a bunch of DVD's since I really don't want to be tied to the dying format anymore. I have a couple of Blu Rays that I'm waiting for in the 150-200 point range, but overall there's not much I'm interested in acquiring at the prices.
Kameleon: smkymtnkid: No, I do not pay for movies. A little elf brings them to me for free. The same elf that brings me my music. Don't ask me a question unless you want the answer... Makes me wonder how those elves make a living sometimes. I'm sure Santa pays them little to nothing around Christmas time.

Santa probably spends $3 developing some Wii shovel ware and charges $30 per copy for it. Or acquires the NFL license so he can charge $60 a year for roster updates. That'll give him enough to pay his elves the pennies they get.

When you say that, what exactly do you mean? Are dvd and/or blu-ray prices too high, too low, or something else? Thanks!

EA is laying people off due to the bad economy and crapy business practices. Piracy has a smaller impact on companies than said companies will admit. Companies such as EA love to tell people that they have to have this DRM which makes it so you cant resell the game because of piracy not because it makes it so they can sell more games due to cutting out the resale market.
lessthanjizzle:Zanna, is the instant match going to be used with the movie trading as well because I know I have many disc only movies I would be first in line for as disc only and was hoping this would maybe help them move a little bit as I have only traded three movies since movie trading started and have about 80 listed.
Yes, Instant Match works for both games and movies. However, if a movie has no supply, or no demand, it can't do any magic.... you just need to be patient and wait for a request/offer to come along. The system will automatically select you when this happens.
I say we need better pricing for the box sets on the site. While some are accurately reflected, some are so low in points (less than 200), that trading them isn't worth it due to the cost of shipping. I think any boxset should be set no lower than 200 or 250. Also, maybe it is time to look into raising the 1200 cap for certain packaging. There are many sets that sell for $100 to even $300 for these TV or movie boxsets and are set at 1200 points (a basic value of $60), and shipping on some of these are up to $10 or more.
A lot of the anime sets also go for way less than they should. Many sell for $30 - $100, but go for only 250 - 700 points.
Maybe Goozex could enlist a couple members to help find accurate pricing on these sets and search through Amazon at new and used pricing and figure out what is best. Also setup a minimum price point for some of these boxsets. I know I'd help find better price points for Goozex to use on the movie trading side, and I'm sure there are others that would love to help the service improve.
And like I said in another thread, let's get some mroe promotion and advertising for this service outside of GOozex. We need more movie only traders here to help make it bigger than it currently is.
G-Nitro is correct that the point caps are broken. Some items need to go well above 1200 points. e.g. a new DJ Hero or Rock Band 2 with controllers is worth more than that. The Harry Potter 5-disc Blu-ray box set is worth more.
Point values on many TV show box sets are too low, and should take shipping into account (in some cases it does seem like full-package sales would even deserve an extra 50 points, since disc-only on a box set would be much much cheaper to ship... not sure how to handle that though).
Also, in unrelated news, THANK YOU to the generous soul who just flipped Up on Blu-ray to me! :)
All we need is a 15 second commercial during the Super Bowl!

Frankly once the movies were made available that's all I've been trading, haven't traded for a game since. I love the movie trading - it's very hard to get many of the movies I've attained for anywhere near the $5 it's costing me on Goozex. Many of the movies are a steal. Not to mention I've been able to pick up some movies that I can't find in stores anymore.
The main thing that needs to be fixed up, as many others have mentioned, or multiple versions of the same video - it can be very confusing, especially when there are differences in price between the (on the surface exact same) versions as high as 150 points (that I've noticed). Other than that, I'm loving the movie trading.

Blu-Ray prices. I'm not interested in acquiring DVD's because I consider it a dying format.
Thinking about it though, I really don't think it's any fault of the G-Team and the way you've priced things but more a function of how costly Blu-Ray technology still is. I understand that the algorithm uses retail value at least in some part, and do believe it's doing its job there. I just don't like retail value, and haven't really bought many Blu Rays outside of Goozex either. :)
Did you know that the video game companies consider buying used games a form of piracy? They say it is stealing money from them that they could use to make more games and are trying everything they can to stop game trading...

I know some companies aren't thrilled about used-game sales (Eidos comes to mind), but I've never heard a position this dramatic. The first sale doctrine is pretty clear-cut in this country.
