I'm looking for a good shooter or rpg. If it's a shooter, I would like multiplayer with a good online community. It also needs to be 600 points and under.

Team Fortress 2 was $2.49 on Steam recently.  I'm not sure if the sale is still on, but it's a fantastic shooter.  Yes

RPG: Check out Fallout 3 for a shooter/rpg. It's made by the same company as Oblivion, but from what I have played of Fallout 3 it's better. (It has guns, I like guns)

FPS: Look at Call of duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty 5 World at war. Download the Modern Warfare singleplayer demo for a feel of the gameplay. I've played World at War's multiplayer at a friend's house and it's fun. I've heard Modern Warefare's multiplayer is better but World at War has this game called "Nazi Zombies" in which you and a few others face increasingly difficult waves of zombies...it's fun.

I don't own these but I've played enough of them(30 hrs Fallout and probably at least 6 hrs World at War muti) to highly recommend them. I will be getting one of these, Bioshock, or Gears of War next. Gears of War has muliplayer but I haven't played it and Bioshock is a shooter with a few rpg elements but it's only singleplayer. (There is a demo for Bioshock as well if your interested) Look at some reviews to get a better idea of each game.

Hope this helped!

TF2 and COD4 and W@W are great shooter suggestions.  W@W gets a lot of milage from the Zombie Mode, which is best with other friends, though the multiplayer is great on PC as well (first time we got Prestige mode).

Another fine shooter is Killing Floor, a wave defense based shooter for up to 6 players generally.  It is a pretty straight forward shooter...just survive, but it also encompasses some class based RPG elements and leveling that makes it rather addictive.  I've bought a copy for myself while it was on sale at $15, and just bought another copy for my younger brother at $20 so he could play it too.  A pretty solid game.  Unfortunately that's not traded here.

I just recently started playing BioShock, but I'm enjoying that too.

Hmmm....kind of thin on the RPGs, but I mostly play RTS and FPS on PC, two genres that lend themselves well to PC.

RPG
Dragon Age: Origin is the best ive played in a long time. If you want something older, Baldur's Gate II or Neverwinter Nights (not the sequel) are both very good. The Elder Scrolls series is great also (arena, daggerfall, morrowind, and oblivion). Fallout is a great game too, but usually the RPG fans are looking for the swords and sorcery type.

I sank a ton of time in NWN back when that was new, so that's a solid suggestion as well.  Havent played Dragon's Age yet, so I can't comment there.

The original Baldur's Gate was good as well.

DA: O is pretty much Oblivion with a great story and squad tactics..and great voice acting...and none of the initial bugs that Bethesda is known for (so far, knock on wood). I almost wish I was single so I could have some 12 hour DA: O binges...lol.

Killing Floor as well as Left 4 Dead 2 PC can be traded I think.

Is there even a physical version of Killing Floor?  I mean, you could send it as a gift, but Goozex doesn't generally allow STEAM trading.

L4D2 I would presume is tied to STEAM directly as well, just like the original L4D.

Oh I agree.  I think ALL games should be tradable, and only listed if they're in a tradable state.  I have a spare copy of HL2 I've had since Orange Box's release and I've yet to pawn it off to anyone.  Someone else here traded a new copy of MW2 for PC without issue.

As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I played it a while back and stopped.  I was enjoying the game, but I tend to play everything on hard and that game in particular was quite stressful on max difficulty.  I may retry it at a lower setting now that I've lost my save file.

Great game with lots of flaws (frames, crashing, great graphics into crappy graphics into great graphics.)

There are some scenes that are mind blowingly awesome but the game can be frustrating.

It's definitely worth a play through! The 2nd I hated and couldn't get into it at all

STALKER is an amazing game.  It has a great atmosphere and some of the creepiest sections of gameplay I've ever experienced.  I think part of it has to do with you being in these wide open areas and then in horribly dark, castrophobic underground areas.   Really creepy.  The end is a bit blah as they tried to ramp up the difficulty curve but other than that its great.  Also, I played it just last year once the slew of patches had been released and I didn't have an major problems.  I think it crashed to desktop once or twice but other than that it was fine.
