I get the last laugh though, because they just paid at least $150 (the minimum amount of our speeding fines)

I'm heading down to Minnesota (from Thunder Bay, ON) to see a Vikings game... In Canada, we can usually get away with 15-20 km/hr over the speed limit., how strict is the US with regards to speeding?  I'm fully prepared to not go above the posted m/hr.

I live in Minnesota, and I can almost guarantee that you won't have any problems in the Twin Cities, but I'd be careful in the rural parts of MN. Your likelihood of getting a speeding ticket for something wimpy like 5 MPH over the limit goes up substantially the farther outside of Saint Paul and Minneapolis that you go.

PS. Yeah! Vikings, WOO!

People not knowing how/when to use your/you're. UGH.

Definitely. Also, they're/their/there.

Don't forget the bizarre Internet-wide transposition of "lose" and "loose".

Always nice to find people as picky about their grammar as I am.

I work as a lifeguard at a YMCA, so I spend some time in the locker room during the day and I have the intense misfortune of very frequently seeing naked old dudes in there. It's bad enough to see them next to their locker getting changed, but what's worse is that some of these old fleshbags don't have the decency to even CLOSE THE CURTAIN WHEN THEY'RE SHOWERING. I mean, wtf is that? Dude, can't you have the common courtesy to use a few muscles to draw the curtain when you're frickin' SHOWERING? How lazy ARE you? I don't need to see the uglies of your wrinkly nasty old body. I just don't understand it. It's like they're proud to show off their nakedness while doing daily things or something. They'll also have the audacity to do other things naked like standing in front of the mirror washing their face, standing on the weight scale, using the suitmate, etc...And I have to walk past them as they do these things and I'm just like "...Dude...this sucks"

Apologies for the mental images haha. I've recently had the desire to start up a thread like this to complain about peeves like this, so this is perfect. I couldn't resist replying. And the purpose of this is twofold. I get to introduce myself to the community also! And I don't have "pet" peeves, because that's just stupid, but old naked guys certainly peeve me.

hooray for first post

I know EXACTLY what you're saying....so for quite some time now, probably 2 years, I've been going to my local rec center every other day to work out and such. Well if you need to use the bathroom, you have to go into the changing room where people change for swimming and other things. And E V E R Y T I M E i go in there there's a few naked old dudes just chillin.....some looking in the mirror, others showering, some even using the urnals in their PURE NAKEDNESS!!???!? I mean c'mon, seriously, put some clothes on...please. As you can see, I try to make using the bathroom a rare thing for this very reason.

old...wrinkly.......bodies.....Ick!

I'm hard of hearing, and have a slight accent due to my hearing loss.  My pet peeve is people asking me where I'm from.

I realize that it's just people being ignorant, but after hearing that question so often, I started just telling people that I'm German and walking away...

Another annoying phrase: "I could care less." Wrong in nearly every case that it's used. The correct phrase is "I couldn't care less" implying that you don't care at all. If you say you could care less, then obviously you care to a degree and you're likely using the phrase incorrectly. This one's really bad because I actually hear it on TV pretty often, further spreading the wrongness.

That's one of my pet peeves as well. Hate hearing it used incorrectly. Unfortunately, I rarely hear it used any other way. Makes me a sad panda.

Haha this is one of my pet peeves too...I was just arguing this with my bf a couple of days ago.
Another peeve is when people say they have a temperature instead of fever.  EVERYONE has a temperature *&(^%(&*$#!!!
Also, it annoys me when I hear someone say "Lemme find out". That phrase just irritates the hell out of me for some reason. Angry

'Let me find out' is a great phrase.  Even better is 'If it's important to you, it's important for me to find out'.  Old sales trick.  It allows me to completely side step your question, yet at the same time instills some trust and gives the impression I give a damn.

My largest pet peeves is probably incompetence, so I guess people in general.

lol well I was referring to the slang use, not literal use.  Like when someone finds out something about you they didn't know.  "Oh, I didn't know you play video games.  Lemme find out!"  Confused

I hate when people do updates on Facebook, or I get a text, where peope substitute that and this with "dat", and "dis", or the with "da". It's stupid. Half the time these retarded abbreviations are the same amout of letters as the word they represent.

This thread is becoming more and more like George Carlin's "Brain Droppings" book.  Which, by the way, is awesome.  His section on what irony actually is and how it pisses him off when people use the word ironic incorrectly is pure gold.

Speaking of which, Alanis Morrisette's song "Ironic" annoys the hell out of me.  It's like a giant beacon of ignorance.
