I have my first kid on the way in April, my question to you guys is....When you had your first kid did it change anything about your gaming habits? If so how so?

Yes. Be prepared to turn down the volume (turtle beach headsets ftw) and press pause a lot.

Yes. Be prepared to turn down the volume (turtle beach headsets ftw) and press pause a lot.

I dont turn down the volume but the pause button is very true.  Having one kid shouldnt limit your gaming habits too much, just lots of pausing to give them their sucky back and to tell them to keep it in their damn mouth if they want it.  Once you start having more than one kid though your gaming time will diminish along with your sanity.

You will be forced to use Goozex for all your gaming needs due to a lack of  real money. 

Also, it will probably take you at least twice as long to get through a game, due to constant interruptions, like having to feed the baby, having to change the baby, etc....

Oh yeah, and congratulations!

Also... they never need you until you are at an unpausable cut scene.  My son likes to get crushed ice during every cutscene...

I can't game as much now as the kids (so I am told) deserve attention to.  I also try to only play the "M" rated games after they go to bed.  This is also less then I normally would as becasue I will always choose to spend time with my wife over the xbox... 

One other thing I just thought of... get ready to play lots of kids games.. no matter how mind numbing they are.

I have only managed to play about 25-30 mins of Dragon Age, because my kids are so damn loud all the time, I can't hear the story.  I finally just gave up, and decided to wait until next week to play when they are at their dad's house.   I should invest in some headphones, but they're annoying and I like my surround sound.

Congrats, I'm on the verge of making that decision myself, once I can figure out how to afford it.

Hopefully you still find time to game.  A friend of mine, a little younger than me, had his first kid a little over a year ago.  I think I've seen him online all of 5 times since then.  It's been rather sad.

For me, I game a LOT less and not as long at a time. Games that don't let me save every 15-20 minutes are hard to get to.
I do play PSP or DS a lot more now. If the main TV is on, it's toddler shows. Oh joy.

I guess if you don't care how good of a parent you are, it wouldn't change much.

My daughter is 3 now and I think in a few more years I can turn her into a gold farmer/xp grinder while I'm at work.

I have a 120 pound saint bernard so just make sure she can't trip over cables and destroy everything

And put your controlers up high... they will pick them up and drop them or chew on the thumb sticks.

I hope your newborn is not colicky, i have a six week old right now and she is very colicky.  My game playing time went waaaay down.  for the first 4 weeks i didn't even get to touch the ps3 or xbox.  Now it's only about 30 min every couple of nights if i even get the chance. 

Colicky baby is tough.  They take alot of time and stress you out.  They also stress the wife out so you have to take care of her too.  Sometimes video games have to take the back seat but i just keep telling myself its not forever.  I'll just build up a nice library and when the colic goes away im sure ill be able to play more often.
