Kenny007:
being called sweetie was put on the same level as grabbing a womans chest

To some it is, sexual harassment is sexual harassment.  There is no 'minor infraction'.  My wife works in forestry, a predominantly male dominated industry, as a Registered Professional Forester and is subjected this kind of bullshit on nearly a daily basis.

While I don't think a man hugging his wife at a place of work is sexual harassment, people regardless of sex, sexual orientation or gender should be treated with respect in and outside of the workplace.  Just because you don't find something offensive doesn't mean somebody else shares your line of thinking, sweetie.

It would be the same to my wife. Calling a woman sweetie is demeaning.

Well my ex gf is a long time HR admin and has lots of experience w/ this type of thing.  I've also been in both large and small corporate america for a number of years and I've actually had a complaint against me once from WAY back...(later)

Your wife can easily counter/claim.  Hugging is not sexual harassment under the law if the huggie is willing and there is nothing overtly sexual about it.  It's a common misconception that "anything can be sexual harassment if someone reports it" that is simply a misunderstanding

You can counterclaim straight up harassment.  Hugs are "normal" in the eyes of a judge, or a jury for willing participants and can not rationally be considered harassment for an observer.  It's an obvious abuse of the system.

DO NOT SIT BACK AND DO NOTHING... letting this blow over gives the "accuser" power.  Legally you also have the right to face your accuser, so even if the company fired you, that would be a windfall because you could sue them right back, and the accuser would either have to testify or it would be a slam dunk win

Sexual harassment is real, the David Letterman deal is a good example.  Actual sex going on in the workplace, between supervisor and underling.

2 willing people sharing a friendly hug could never be found to be harassment under US law unless the lawyer was completely incompetent.

-------

Long story alert

I was "accused" of making this chick feel uncomfortable because I supposedly "said something about her breasts".  She was cool in confronting me directly tho.  THe irony of course was how blind she was to the real harassment.

We all worked in a lab, and my boss was a female and very "grad school" mentality.  Basically anything goes as long as you are smart and work hard.  She hated dumb people or anyone lazy.

We had ice fights, dirty jokes, people flashing ass at each other.  We had a college intern and she ripped his shirt off one time and grabbed his ass etc... we'd drink at lunch you name it.

SOmehow one conversation across lab benches was about CA girls and how they get implants.  The girl who complained to me said I "talked about her breasts that made her feel very uncomfortable"  I couldn't even remember the details but I think I may have been ragging on how bad implants are and how they are silly, I think the comment was "you don't have implants".

As a 25 year old in a crazy lab like that, it seems harmless.  But looking back, she was technically correct in being uncomfortable.  I should not have said anything about her breasts.  Even something as harmless as "you don't have implants" in the context of "implants are for hollywood fake people etc..:

The real kicker is I was friends w/ her boss.  Her boss told me and a bunch of other guys he hired this girl because she was so hot and had a nice ass.  He used to come to the lab to "check in" with her and there would literally be a line of 4 guys deep standing behind him staring at her ass.

So every day her boss was leering at her and a bunch of other guys would stand near her and stare at her jaws dropped.  BUt that wasn't harassment :)?

The easy solution was I never spoke to her or about her again, worked out fine,  but it scared the piss out of me at the time.

I've never mentioned anyone's breasts ever again, but in my current job a few diff chicks have talked to me about their breasts...we are friends and it was something about how they have boomin dcups and how that adds to body weight or whatever.

I think I had another complaint from someone else because I had a Cate Blanchett poster up in my lab.  Cate Blanchette, dressed up as Queen Elizabeth... and someone complained... a fully clothed movie poster??>?

That is just stupid, I would rather someone call my wife sweetie than someone grabbing her breasts.  It should be like any other thing where there are such things as minor infractions.

As for your wife Cheeznrice I would suggest she contacts the HR where she works and file complaints if she is getting sexually harrassed.  Or as some Americans like to say hairisment.  It drives me crazy when people pronounce it that way.

Sweetie is a tough one, my rule is women can call men sweetie, but not the other way around.  When my dad was alive he used to call every waitress or hostess honey..it drove me nuts.

You could call my wife or sweetie or touch her breasts - either way you should expect a high heel firmly implanted into your forehead.

You may not find it demeaning, but you are a man. She finds it demeaning and that is all that matters.

I am not saying it is stupid if your wife finds it demeaning I am saying that if in the workplace calling someone sweetie once is the same as grabbing her breasts then that is just plain stupid and it does not make any sense.  I can see someone getting fired for grabbing a coworkers breasts once but if someone called a coworker sweetie once it would not make any sense for them to be fired over it.  So basically I am saying that "there is no minor infraction" is stupid.

Also hmm, I wonder if a high heel in the head is worth a boob grab DevilPizza

I was saying that both could be termed sexual harassment. One would obviously be more serious than the other. My wife has clarified that sweetie would net the high heel implantation but the *** grabbing would result in a rather messy castration.Big Smile

IS your wife talking to my GF?  My gf loves to pretend to crush my nuts... but I'm like way nervous about it and tell her "don't play like that!"

Something about chicks and nuts, I believe they invented that fetish porn w/ the high heel stomping on the tied up sack thing.   IMO nuts are not for cracking

The person who reported you needs to mind his or her own business. A hug is now considered a threat to people?

Wow, if that's the case, my wife sexually harasses me every day, and if calling someone sweetie is the same, I get sexually harassed every time I go to a store or fast food place here in the south (sweetie, darlin, sugar, honey).  I hate this world sometimes ugh.

A hug is not offensive.

This is just another example of someone twisting a law-put in place to protect people from abuse at work or a public place- into a form of manipulative self proclaimed etiquette enforcement.

Seriously. Hug every day! Hug free and hug hard! AND. If they actually fire you for hugging your wife - with her consent - at work take them for all they are worth. lol.
