So, I eBayed a hard drive, finally. When I first put it in, it seemed okay, but I put in an original Xbox disc, and it said the disc could not be played, please re-download.

Tried a 360 game, and it said "please insert into a xbox 360". So I removed the thing, tested with just the original Arcade setup, and it worked. Put the HDD back on, and it worked still.

Trying to install a game on it, and it appears to be downloading fine. However, it still will not recognize Xbox Original games. Is there a trick to this, or is this a result of me unknowingly ordering a non-OEM Hard Drive?

Any suggestions? The company is offering me a refund...if I return their item. This was a good deal...but will it like fry my system? Is there any reason it wouldn't recognize an Xbox disc?

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Did you pop in a 360 compatible drive? or just buy a drive off the interdoodles?

This is the hard drive I got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170379367229&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Alleges that it works on everything. Now I have found the fine print that says it's non OEM, so that sucks. But if it works on everything I won't complain, it's like a generic controller. Thing I don't understand is why I can play/download/etc. everything else, but it won't let me play xbox originals.

Okay, so I doubt I need to put pictures on here. I was so excited, I just plopped it on my system.

Big sticker on the back says "made in China". Didn't think much of that at the start, because a lot is these days, even for an American company.

BUT....

The reflective stickers don't actually say "microsoft", they say "Y'all" and "warranty void if removed". Also, the edge of the HDD is flat grey, and most every HDD I've seen has a silver edging.

Next frustration: They told me they'd send me an email, I haven't gotten it yet, and the number now goes "beep beep beep" for the rest of the day. I'll try again tomorrow....but I just pray that they actually are legit in their return policy.

Am I gonna get banned for even having it on my console in the first place?

If it isnt working 100% give him a negative and file a paypal dispute for item not working.  That will get you a refund really quickly.  The seller misled you by putting it on a second page that the hard drive is not an official one which is sneaky and deserves a negative if it doesnt work properly.

After a lot of talk with people with terrible reception and who couldn't speak straight english, I got information on how to send it back for a refund, got it in the mail today.

First, thanks IWX for the site, I'll be putting another twenty towards it and getting it nice and cheap there.

Second, Killmak, do you think I should still give a negative on the sale if they give me a complete reimbursement? I'm kinda torn here. I've never had a halfway like this. Either they suck, or they rock. It's like they've said "we understand you don't like it, here's your money back".

Personally I dont know if I would leave a negative or not.  If they charge you a restocking fee or dont refund shipping then I would think about leaving a negative.  They did have it on there that it was not OEM however they burried that fact which makes it devious of them and is not something that I like out of sellers.  Now that I think about it more and more I would deffinately leave a negative with them just because of that.  I hate it when sellers are not up front about what thery are selling and since it didnt work properly that is enough grounds for a negative.
