What it cost the Yankees to buy a World Series.
The only thing worse would have been the Red Sox spending that much to win the World Series.

You say win i say buy but in the end thats a lot of money.
Yeah, but if there's no salary cap rich teams aren't breaking the rules by signing/acquiring high-priced talent. It's just annoying for fans of other teams.
Disclaimer: I'm a Blue Jays fan who knows they'll never finish better than third in the AL East as long as Boston and New York are around.

I never said it was breaking the rules or it was wrong. I just think it is a lot of money btw i am a White Sox fan.
It is worth every penny...
congrats to you Yankees for BUYING a world series trophy
I used to say stuff like this too, but they havn't won it since 2000. Red Sox have won it twice since then, but so have the Marlins. Most of the other teams, from what I can remember, had mediocre to large payrolls, but nowhere near the Red Sox or Yanks
Plus, think of the Rays, Rockies, Twins, and A's(back in the early part of the 00's) that made it with small payrolls.
Give me a break look at team profits: The yanks make like 20 million in profit so do ALOT of other smaller teams. Plus we give 60 million a year to other teams in luxury tax.
And lets see the HOMEGROWN Players on our team:
Pettite
Jeter
Posada
Cano
Melky
Rivera
Gardner
Joba
Hughes
So before you cry about "buying" a world series maybe you should go cry to your billionaire owner and ask why he can't bring in some better talent.

Yes look at the rays. They stank for years and years because they couldnt afford free agents. Finally they pile up enough young talent that they have a great team. When you have a team full of great young players you are going to have to pay them lots and lots of money soon which is killing the rays and will put them right back to the bottom of the division. Baseball needs to do something about the bostons and new yorks spending so much more money than other teams can afford. If they expanded the playoffs to 16 teams I bet there would be a fair amount less complaining about the yankees since more teams make it to the playoffs.
I am also a Blue Jays fan and I too know that making the playoffs with boston and new york in our division is slim to none. Mind you Rogers owns the Blue Jays so they should be able to spend a lot of money as well considering the better the Blue Jays do the more money they will make in other parts of their company.

What it costs the phillies to lose the world series...
Also, of the top 10 salaries in basebal: 3 made the playoffs, 5 of the top 20 made the playoffs.
Also the yanks spend money stupidly. yea they throw a ton of money at people but they overpay for nearly everyone. 13 mill for Posada, Damon, Matsui. no thanks.
Also I find it funny that the Most storied sports franchise in the WORLD in the most Expensive City in the world isn't expected to be the richest franchise.
BTW Chicago White Sox

F*** the Yankees. There. I said it.

I have a "Yankees Suck" poster, and ever since I got it the Yankees stopped winning...until now. Oh well, at least it worked for a good 5 years or so.
Watching these kinds of World Series games aren't exactly thrilling, though. It's like watching the All-Star game. I don't even do that anymore, because who wants to see some overpaid overzealous windbag earn a bonus? Same philosophy for a World Series that cost a total of over $300 million to produce between both teams involved. I just don't care, because there's no heart, there's no story, there's nothing even remotely of interest about any of it...except that there are "big superstars" involved.
I seriously don't understand how there's still not a salary cap for the damn sport. There are guys out there making $5-10 mil a year for a .250-275 average and 15-20 jacks. Just a decade ago that would have been entirely unheard of. There's no excuse. It's not that it removes the chance for every underdog team out there, it's just that when you've got powerhouse teams who have no problem buying their way to victory and deeper pockets than you could even imagine, it makes it pretty improbable that the underdog team, even with the best draft picks and management ever heard of could ever even have a chance at sniffing victory. When that greedy unchecked behavior becomes rampant, teams like the Blue Jays and Orioles have no chance of competing. I'm not saying it happens all the time, or that it's impossible to win against those odds, I'm simply saying it's extremely improbable. In a way it makes victory against those odds even more fun to watch, but I never started watching baseball to see if david could beat goliath again -- that story is old as dirt, and the concept is too.
Having no salary cap doesn't make things more interesting, it makes them MORE BORING.
