One reason there is a rising rate of autism is because it gets easier and easier to diagnose it every year which means people that would not have been diagnosed with it in the past are getting diagnosed with it now.  I am not saying this is the only reason it is rising but it is a pretty big reason that is overlooked by a lot of people.

Well, I wouldn't disagree that given the sheer number of expected vaccinations for young children, that the amount of mercury over that amount of time could have exceeded recognized safety limitations, I would place heavy doubt on anyone trying to draw an = from vaccines to autism (especially with current vaccines which have minimal to no amounts of thiomersal).

Thiomersal isn't bad in and of itself, but like anything when over used it could have some negative effects.

I'm not entirely convinced that the rate of autism is even rising. Increasing awareness of the disorder, a very commonly cited explanation for the increased rates, has definitely had an impact on diagnostic rates.

And of course, the definition of autism has expanded greatly over the past 40 or 50 years (and even in the last 10-15). This has lead to a rise in diagnosed incidences.

A perfect example is a friend of mine. He went to some presentation about autism last year and afterward he said he felt like he had had an epiphany. Everything the presenter and explained about autism, he felt like it applied to him. So now he's convinced he's autistic.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but I'd have never have guessed that he is.

I don't really know anyone that would disagree that H1N1 has been really over-hyped. Last time it was Bird Flu, so we can only wonder what'll be hitting the news reels this time next year.

Mostly, I dislike misinformation and the half-truths (and outright lies) spread by groups like Anti-Vaxxers. I think childhood vaccines are an important thing for kids to have, the benefits (and risks of not having them) far outweighing the risks associated with taking them.

Definitely, though, the pharms (and news outlets) love a good health scare, even if they have to fabricate one.

I'm not getting the vaccine, but this is ridiculous. We all pay into this system, so we all should get equal treatment. That is how it is suppose to work. Also how are athletes at higher risk than I am? I go to and from work using the TTC on the crowded subways, and crowded buses. I'm sorry, how are most people too normal to get the shot?
