Agreed.  This whole swine flu thing is ridiculous.  I'm not breaking down anyone's door to get vaccinated, and the H1N1 hasn't proven itself to be a big concern to begin with.  It's the media hyping the whole thing out of wack, and gullible folks going bonkers plowing their way to a shot.

They can have mine.

Agree on both points.

The Flames should have given a free clinic for people to get the vaccine and had their players filmed received it to promote the idea that it's safe.

It doesn't really matter to me who gets it when, because I sure as hell won't be getting it at all. Never had a flu shot, and I'm not about to start with this one.

Every time I hear about swine flu I think about the report I heard from 1976 were the vaccination actually killed more people than the actual flu did.  It was never totally proven, but that's what was speculated. 

Vaccination?  No thanks!

It's really hard to compare this flu to the Spanish Flu.

For one, just look at public awareness of germs and viruses in general! Hardly anyone really understood the impact of clean hands in relation to the spreading of diseases back then. At least, not among the general population.

So that led to that flu being far more widespread than the flues of today.

Secondly, the virus itself, though they're named similarly, were quite different. It wasn't the flu itself that killed people. It was their body's response to that flu. It's called a Cytokine Storm. In the case of a cytokine storm, your immune system over reacts to the flu virus and starts attacking the body. What this meant was that people with strong immune systems were much, much sicker than people with weak immune systems.

This led to the Spanish Flu killing off many young, healthy adults.

This version of H1N1 seems to most effect children, who are normally fairly weak against flues anyway. Really, it's a good deal different than the H1N1 Spanish flu.

Personally, I'm not worried about it. I don't work in a high risk environent for contracting H1N1 (or any flu). If I did, though, I would be getting a vaccine.

Vaccines are not bad, but they shouldn't be something you just run out and get just because it's there. If you're in a higher-than-average risk group for getting (and possibly being seriously sick from) the flu then it's something you should consider.

The government has given drug makers immunity from lawsuits if something happens to someone receiving the h1n1 flu vaccine. If the vaccine is supposed to be safe, why is our government letting the drug companies off the hook if something goes wrong?  

Not to mention, flu shots are never FDA approved. Why? because every year a new vaccine is given out and it would take too long for the FDA to approve them. 

Sorry, no flu shot for me. Everyone getting them are basically test subjects for drug companies imo.

I think it's hilarious that people are even worried about this stupid flu. A couple of people have died. So what? Do you know how many people die from malaria every day? This flu is a joke. It's not even as severe as the usual seasonal flu.

My grandfather had two strokes, each exactly 7 days after getting the only two flu shots he had ever received in his life. Other than that he was perfectly healthy. Please learn to not be an asshat and stop confusing "I think I know everything" with actually having a clue. Human beings are all unique and some of us actually can have nasty side effects from medication.
