So, I'm torn between these two. What do you guys think? Borderlands looks really intriguing and fresh while I know L4D 2 will be more of the same fun zombie slaying Smile

Make both happen. There is no choosing.

They both fill different niches.

For me it's a no brainer ( Wink ), Borderlands > L4D

I'm assuming L4D2 will be very similar to L4D which I really didn't enjoy.

Borderlands > L4D2, though they're both different games entirely.

4 player co-op RPG is way cooler and slightly more original than 4 player Co-op FPS.  Not to mention that L4D is available to you if you want that style of fix, while BL is a bit more unique.

...and that's without adding that Valve is setting a terrible precedent with the L4D series, something I'd rather not support.

Verdict: Borderlands.

The fact that L4d 2 is very similar to the first is what prompted my increased interest in Borderlands! I liked the first left 4 dead, but the second one really kinda feels like a re-skin to me. I dig the new bayou survival vibe, but let's face it, how many normal and fun people do you actually play through a zombie campaign with? That's my main concern. I basically stopped playing L4D 1 because Live is filled with a bunch of idiots most nights.

Cheeznrice, how are the visuals and lag in Borderlands?

I would pick Borderlands because Im assuming that L4D 2 is almost the same as the first. It was really fun at first but got repetitive very fast and there was only 4 levels which made the game not very long for me at least. I tend to not play through games over and over so I would easily pick Borderlands first but everyone is different (except for identical twins - they scare me )

It IS the same, that's why I was disappointed a little bit. There are like three new zombie types and a few melee weapons basically. I am about to go cancel my pre-order at Best for L4D 2 and just buy Borderlands with that money.

Oh, and , who doesn't like twins? Unless they are twin clowns....because that would just be unnecessary Cool

As someone who has played L4D is currently playing Borderlands and who played the L4D2 demo last night my verdict is hands down Borderlands

The game is sick.

After playing the L4D2 demo I was disappointed. Really the only difference is some new enemies.  The gameplay, graphics and style of the game are almost completely the same. Big letdown for me.

I play L4D1/2 primarily for vs.

If you don't think there are significant differences in L4D2, then you weren't that familiar with L4D1. I won't bother arguing much about it, but if you look at any series: Halo, Gears, COD, MW, they're all evolutions, not revolutions as each iteration rolls out. If you change the core too much you'll lose what makes each series unique.

I certainly won't knock Borderlands. I'm playing through it now and the co-op is outstanding.

I have Borderlands on the PS3 and will soon have L4D2 on the PC.  That way, when wifey wants to watch Grey's Anatomy, I have a game to go play.

Borderlands is probably going to give you the better game in the shorter term, but if you have a group of friends to play with, L4D2 has more replayability and shelflife IMO.  I can't see myself continuing to play Borderlands a ton after beating it  and trying out all the classes, and just to be clear, I am really loving Borderlands right now.

VS is a huge draw to L4D; my biggest time sink too.  Still, L4D2 is really nothing more than a glossed up expansion pack, not another full retail game.  Some would argue the same of the original L4D, but I digress.

More of L4D goodness IS good, but not at full retail.  I'm waiting on that one.  BL might get a purchase from me soon though; I haven't decided.

Expansion pack? it has more content than the original L4D. I'm tired of the argument that L4D2 is an expansion pack. If you can create mroe content than the first, it deserves a retail release.

+1

L4D2 is much more beyond adding survival mode, or a new stage...

You're obviously not terribly familiar with the modding scene that follows most Valve files to date.

L4D2 is essentially a few more campaigns, in daylight, with a few more models of friends and foes.  The biggest hurdle in creating the second, as I'm sure was the case in the first, was their highly dynamic voice system, necessitating a ton of recording; something not easily replicated.

From a Valve game, it's a cut and dry expansion pack going for full cost.  The delayed SDK just compounded the issue by limiting the development from the playerbase at large.

I'll just hold out for L4D3, due out on 11/17/2010.
