So I finally got around to playing the demo on Monday, and I was stoked about the game.  Even in the simple demo, the new weapon variety was great, and the computer AI seems better.  I don't see myself using the melee much, especially since it takes the place of your pistol, but it was fun to cut off a zombies head with an electric guitar.

I'm torn on this title.  I don't like how Valve is turning this title into a release-a-year franchise (he's even hinted at L4D3 next year!!!), a stark contrast to their normal awesome.  However, MW2 was supposed to get me by until spring of next year, a title I surely wont be touching anytime soon, if at all.  As a result, I find myself reevaluating whether or not I want this game.

The first one was awesome, albeit relatively short lived, and I question paying full price for a prettied up expansion pack, but more L4D would be enjoyable I'm sure.

Damn principles...

Guys, if you preorder this on steam, you get a free hat

Oh yeah, you get a game too, but holy crap, a hat!

Yea...I was pretty pumped to see that hat yesterday, but I held out.

They're pulling out all the stops to get people to buy their controversial title!

some buddies and I got the pre-purchase 4 pack and it worked out to $37 apiece, which makes it a lot more worth it to me...

Even if they continue with a release per year cycle of L4D games, I don't see it as a huge problem at this point.  This is a new game, with new characters, 4 new campaigns, new zombies, new weapons, updated graphics and AI.  To me, that is much more than an expansion pack.  I look at it like I look at Madden : if the yearly update is just a "roster update" its not worth it to me, but if they are significantly improving things and creating a new game experience, then why should I complain about $50 for a few dozen hours of entertainment?

Quite true, however, had they released the SDK in a timely manner, all those additions would have been created by the community.  The only facet that Valve would be able to continually hold above modders heads is their exceptional use of voice acting in the game, something I'm sure a few modders wouldn't be able to replicate as easily.

New levels, enemies and weapons though?  The mod community could have fired those out left and right (good and bad ones mind you).  $30 bucks maybe, $50...no.  I can't convince myself to buy the game yet, let alone my similarly upset friends with even less disposable income...lol.

I skipped over Left 4 Dead 1 when it came out and had been meaning to pick it up for a while... then they announced L4D2. I didn't much care for the stylistic changes in L4D2, and I didn't want to jump into a new series that would become a one-a-year cash cow, so I've been leaning angainst that one too. And of course there's no reason to get L4D1 these days because nobody will be playing it.

I guess it all depends on how much you enjoy L4D. If they announced Team Fortress 3 I would preorder it so fast like a total sucker, even though they didn't even finish the second game yet. The hat is very tempting, but I'm not sure I like such a marketing tactic. And I'm still butthurt about missing getting the medal for Soldier.

Just a note, to those who want to pick this up for 360 instead, and want to do it cheaply.  K mart, black friday, L4D2 x360 for $39 the week after release.
