Let's have a discussion about games that feature the wild west! This will also help me out on the piece Im writing for the Goozex Report this week
Top two games in my opinion
Red Dead Revolver and Outlaws (old pc game from LucasArts)

Although GUN isn't that bad of a game...
Gun was a great IDEA for a game, they just never finished it. For instance when you complete any mission, anything that was around you at the time instantly resets... the story missions are cool, but the rest of the game is an empty nothingness of "could have been awesome"
I enjoyed it anyway because I like western theme. Red Dead Rev was also pretty good, but was barely western and much more "this is what JPN thinks westerns should be"
The Wild Arms series
Wild West + RPG =

I'm really surprised at the realization that I've never played a western game.

The Original call of Juarez was amazing imo
Gary Johnson For President 2012!

There aren't really a whole lot out there, so I wouldn't be surprised.
Red Dead Rev. and a mod for the original HL are really all I can think of for myself. A shame really.

Gun was the first and only one I've played so far. It was tolerable, but definitely could have been much better.
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive was pretty good. It was basically Commandos with a Wild West setting.
It's kind of surprising there aren't more games set in that era.
Your poll is missing the greatest Western game of all time: Gun Smoke.

Blasphemy!
Gun for me. Only game I have passed 100% on two systems (Xbox and PSP) and working on my third perfect run (Xbox 360). Just quite fun and I was presently shocked the 1st time I played and how much I liked it.

Suggestion for the best Wild Arms game to start with?
I love westerns, but the only western game I tried wasn't that great. I forget what it was called, it was on the original xbox.
Stephen King's Dark Tower series is a great mix of western / fantasy / King-lore, for those looking for a good read!

GUN is the only one I've played on that list (and possibly only one period) so I voted for it. It was pretty good, but not great.
Outlaws for me with it's decent story, excellent level design and puzzles, great music and the main character that resembled Clint Eastwood with six foot arms. The Aliens in the outhouse was just icing on the cake.
finally some love for Outlaws
