MisterAlex: So before I go and get this mofo, I want to avoid any unpleasant surprises... this sucker doesn't have built-in wireless and doesn't have a hard drive, and so can't play my Xbox games, right? Is there anything else ridiculously debilitating that I should know about?

Doesn't include an HDMI cable, headset, or a network cable. If you are looking to play online, that will cost an additional $50 a year (can be found for $30)
on the upside you can get an hdmi for 4 dollars, and 3months of live w/ headset and 400 pts (i think) for 12 dollars.

Really? Not bad.
I really need to get around to wiring my house with ethernet, but I don't know if I have the patience for that.
If I could avoid getting the pricey wifi adapter, I'm pretty close to sold (assuming the deal comes to pass). The wife was pretty pumped about a media extender in the bedroom.

I'd stay clear of using the 360 to play original XBOX games. It's kind of funny that the 360 has brutal BC capabilities and gets little to no flak about it.

I'm in the same boat.

1. It still plays most of the best xbox games, they have a compatibility list on their website
2. No built in wireless, but you can buy a wireless ethernet bridge (or make one) relatively cheap
3. You can either use that free $100 for the hard drive or you can go on amazon/craigslist and find a 20g for $20-40 (don't use ebay 95% are fake)

i've had no problems playing original games on the 360

I highly recommend this route. I bought the official adapter for $70 for the 360 in my bedroom and I've been extremely disappointed with it. It's currently unplugged sitting on top of the 360. If you need the offiical one wait until the wireless N adapter gets released.
The Arcade Unit has a built in 256 MB memory unit, so I wouldn't even bother with a memory card if anyone is thinking about going that route and not getting a hard drive.

And MS just rolled out an update so any unofficial memory unit will not be supported.

Ah, good point. I feel bad for Datel. They make some fine 3rd party products.

they already have a workaround in development i believe
I mentioned this deal to my wife. She said she'd rather have a 2nd PS3 for blu-ray capability. I'm going to file that information away and consider it permission to get another PS3 when the next sale/deal rolls around.

you need to get a tape recorder and just say "what was that you said about the ps3 again?" just to lock it in

That reminds me of the "Bad Moon Rising" episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, when Ray records Deborah while she's PMSing and screaming at him.
Except.. that didn't end well for Raymond.
