Having read all 11 pages or so, all I can really think to say is that this seems like a pretty benign change as far as users are concerned. And it isn't as completely devoid of merit as a bewilderingly large number of people seem to think.
I mean, what? Should I be outraged this doesn't affect my bottom line? "Boo" on the G-Team for making a change which makes things easier for them, and doesn't affect me negatively in any way?
I agree to this new policy. Stop the abuse!
Kool..Seems fair and more reliable to me.

dtp11:If there was some way of proving that they didn't ship it when they said they did or would, I'd be in favour of a small penalty, but there is no way of telling that I can think of, so there's nothing we can do about it.
The postmark can tell when it was sent out of the post office. But if you drop it in the mailbox on a saturday night the postmark wont be till Monday so it can get confusing if they go by that.
I'm OK with this update. Too often I see people who accept a trade and promise 3 days later, and then it takes them over a week to put up a tracking number and find out they had sent the game really late. Maybe if people were given more reason to ship the game faster, then we all can get our points and games more efficiently.
I look forward to getting my games on time more.
G-Nitro: Grenadier: mikehogl: I always click confirm shipped whenever I print the shipping label, no matter what time of the day it is. So in other words, you're part of the problem being discussed here, and an excellent example of why the system is needed, and why it is flawed. He is a part of no problem. I do the same thing, and it is then dropped into a mailbox within 12 hours. I confirm ship as soon I print out the shipping label because it is the most convenient time to do so. Check me feedback and how many items I have sent and then tell me I am part of the problem. Think before you speak and accuse others as part of a problem.

((Yes, this is a very late reply.))
Note that the OP mentioned printing a label not paying for postage, as you (and he) later mention. Big difference. Obviously, if postage has been paid for, that's a lot different than slapping a label on an envelope which may or may not get postage attached the next day.
That being said, it still seems dishonest to mark it shipped when it is not actually in the mail system yet. I've had trades get mark shipped in the middle of the night on a weekend, when you know it didn't get dropped in the mail till Monday morning at best. There's something to be said for having a more accurate set of data, instead of just random dates entered for convenience sake.

If it's sitting in my mailbox (or at a blue USPS bin) over the weekend waiting for the Monday mail pickup, it's in the mail system.
I do think the point of this update is to be rather transparent to good traders, and to push people who slack on sending things out to be more aware of their delays.
I don't think people are going to confirm shipping just to get the points if they're slacking. More likely, it will make them think "Oh, I should really ship this out so I can get the points for it." And as mentioned throughout, it will prevent people from accepting and then canceling, potentially getting points to use that they shouldn't have.
It's still lenient enough to let people get and use their points after shipping, instead of being forced to wait for positive feedback, so it really only affects people who slack off.
I like the idea of not getting the points until confirm shiped but I do not like the idea that a seller cannot issue a trade cancellation
coozm: I like the idea of not getting the points until confirm shiped but I do not like the idea that a seller cannot issue a trade cancellation
WHY??? Just don't confirm to ship if you want to cancel. I hate the fact that sellers try to cancel AFTER they already confirmed to ship.

precisely, there is no reason to cancel after confirming shipped, short of a ninja cutting off your hand as you are about to drop the game into the mailbox
Why not keep the idea, allowing points to be received, but are unable to be spent until Buyer confirms receiving of game?

What's the difference between "points you can't use" and "you don't have the points yet?" Other than the number you see at the top of the screen, it's the same thing.
I will continue to trade honestly...it's just better all around.
