If you can only have one it depends on what and how you like the play.  Here's the deal, Microsoft is good with software and Sony is good with hardware.  That is the main difference between the systems.  The software on the 360 is better but the hardware on the PS3 is rock solid.

If you like multiplayer games with friends the 360 is better.  The PS3 does not have voice communications in the XMB - only in game if the game supports it.  It makes playing with friends difficult since you have to type text message to organize what you are doing.  And then if the game supports voice sometimes it isn't that good.  With the Xbox Chat Party you can sit in an 8 player chat room with friends and you don't have to be playing the same game.

If you like large scale multiplayer the PS3 is the way to go.  Warhawk, Killzone, MAG, Resistance 2, and several other titles allow large matches.  Resistance 2 has a 60 person mode and MAG does 256 people.  if you get a PS3 I highly suggest getting the official Sony bluetooth headset.  Chat is loud and clear with that and it has a mute button which most cheap bluetooth headsets don't have.

If you want to watch bluray movies you will want to get a PS3.  If you have a netflix account it is a toss up.  The 360 allows instant queue but blurays are awesome.

The 360 comes with everything needed to play online - minus the subscription.  It comes with a headset that plugs into the controller.  Yes, the subscription is $50 a year and the PS3 network is free.  However, there is a vast difference in quality between them.

Do you need an elite?  Do you need the hard drive space?  I have an elite and I am not using up half the drive.  I've had an xbox since the day it came out.  The only reason you would need that large of a hdd is if you download a bunch of tv shows.

Both systems have awesome exclusive games.  The PS3 has Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, Metal Gear, Uncharted, Little Big planet and many others.  The 360 has Gears of War, Halo, Left 4 Dead, Crackdown, Forza, and many others.

If you like role playing games the PS3 is the way to go.  With The Last Warrior and latest Final Fantasy coming out soon that is the way to go.  If you like FPS the 360 is the way to go.

Personally I use my PS3 for bluray and single player games.  Live far exceeds the PSN so I do my multiplayer gaming on the 360.  The big thing with Live is the reliability.  because it is built into the system instead of the games like on the Ps3 you have consistancy and reliability.  With the PS3 multiplayer games are implemented differently from game to game and voice communications may differ.

You can't go wrong with either one though.

Exactly.

Depending on what genres of games you like the 360 might have been the right choice, but you really can't go wrong with either considering most AAA titles are multi-console releases.  To be honest I haven't been all the impressed with the exclusives (including timed ones) on either system.  However, I really enjoyed Mass Effect and Tales of Vesperia (both on the 360) more than any exclusive on the PS3, but that's just because they were my type of game.

That is how I use mine as well.  My wife uses the PS3 as her 'main' system.  If a game is on both the 360 and ps3 she gets it for the ps3 while I tend to get them for the 360.  It all boils down to personal preference and your tolerance for 13 year-old prepubescent kids screaming in your headset, but I've heard that's starting to happen more on the ps3.  So a lack of voice chat might be a positive Wink

If you can afford it, by both.

If not, list all the games you are interested in on both systems and choose the system that has more games you know you are going to like.

If you can afford it, get all three.

If you can afford it, get multiples of all three.

I love my Xbox 360 and it has proven to be a great investment. But I am going to eventually get myself a PS3 and or a Wii.

Games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Fable 2, Borderlands, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dragon Age and a ton of smaller releases all come out on the Xbox 360. Heck, Final Fantasy 12 is also coming out for the Xbox 360. How anyone could possibly say the PS3 was the system for people who like RPGs with a straight face? Seriously. When it comes to RPGs its the Xbox that's swinging the bigger stick.

it would appear that it all boils down to what games you want. take graphics out of the equation and its all equal. the ps3 has obviously proven itself with graphics and evidently will continue that trend. there are still very nice looking games for the xbox and while you dont appear to like halo theres still the likes of previously mentioned titles (which im too lazy to name). one thing to take into account is that devs appear to lack a motivation when porting to the ps3 and so some multiplatform titles are a little lower in quality compared to the xbox. theres also upcoming games of course, left for dead 2 and forza 3 if racing is your thing (its not mine thats for damn sure).

thats all i got. i could go on about the awesomeness that is multiplayer but im too busy with MGS3 on my recently acquired ps2.

i'd buy a ps3 just for MGS4 if i could. alas, no extra quid for that. (im not in the UK but i am british so im allowed to say that)Geeked

Or you could go for the MW2 360 Bundle for $400.

I would suggest this too
