Aggregate scores and the sites that average them out are bulls***. If a score is not based on a X/10 or X/5, they make up a score based off the review text. They are not sites to be used and most review sites hate them as they don't accurately reflect what they are saying in their reviews or the scores they give. Tired of people using s*** aggregate sites in arguments
It doesn't seem like someone could pick on the game because it's an exclusive, since this thread is only about exclusives. By default, most of your xbox-centric gamers are not present with opinions in this thread. Mafafu obviously prefers the 360 for gaming, but he's open minded and objective enough that I'd be very hesitant to write off his opinion as just upset it's an exclusive.
I mean, if he's got a ps3 and can play it even though it's not on 360, what does exclusivity have to do with anything?
Anyways, I haven't played Uncharted 2. I'd like to, but I'm in no rush for it. I owned Uncharted twice, and never even turned it on (each time was I found it for less than $10, bought it, kept it for a week or two, and then flipped it for a 300-400% profit). I look forward to playing it, but I'm coming to the party with a clean slate, and no preconceptions of what the game should or should not be or entail.
mafafu: DrJ079:By many it was. Oblivion had an aggregate ranking on the 360 of 93.87. Not all that far off of Uncharted's 96 aggregate. Among the 101 ratings for the game, I'm counting 8 10's, 1 9.9, 6 9.8's, 5 9.7s, 6 9.6's, and 18 9.5's. So 44 of those 101 reviews felt the game was 9.5 or better. Curing cancer if you will. Oblivion was overrated because it was a launch title. People bitched endlessly about the pop-in on that game though. DrJ079:GTA IV PS3 is ranked just above this still, and GTA IV is ranked just below. And that game wasn't nearly as good. I hate GTA games, so anything above a 2 is too much for me DrJ079:People are just getting especially bent out of shape about this one because it's exclusive. That is NOT why I pick on it. As mentioned above, I pick on any game that is overpraised for silly reasons. Yes, I have stated that ALL first party titles are overrated - scorewise and this game is no exception.

Okay, than what is the explanation behind Fallout 3's 92.77 aggregate ranking? A whole .3 points under this one. Out of 72 reviews for the Xbox version you have 7 10's, 1 9.9, 2 9.8's, 2 9.6's, and 11 9.5's. So again you have 23 of 72 reviews giving it a 9.5 or better, curing cancer if you will, and only 8 rankings total under a 9.0. I didn't see too many people droning on about how it didn't deserve it. A couple, but not many, nowhere near the uproar over this title. And I think a lot of it has to do with the game's exclusivity.
Good games get very high ratings, maybe obnoxiously high ratings. I don't think the praise this game has gotten is out of line with what other titles in the past have, and it's certainly the leading candidate for GOY at this point. Not everyone will agree, no one ever does.

So you guys are complaining about the number of people on message boards that say it's the best game they've ever played and think it's perfect? Wow.

All you have to is search txa's posts to see what many PC players felt about Fallout 3. And since when was that exclusive? That was launched day and date on 360, PS3, and PC. I can see why both Oblivion and Fallout 3 would have lower aggregate scores than Uncharted 2. Both are games in beloved series that changed things quite a bit (Oblivion - the difficulty, Fallout - just about all gameplay) and garnered quite a bit of outcry about said changes.
And do not be so quick to disregard G-Nitro. He is an editor on a videogame review website and has a much more informed opinion than most of us.

Maybe it's just me, but the most whining about ratings and praise I've seen this year have come about as a result of Infamous and Uncharted. And Infamous didn't even get that great of reviews. Maybe it's coincidental, but it sure seems like the PS3 exclusives are the ones drawing the most nitpicking.

Yeah, I don't see that at all, especially not recently. If anything, as the PS3's install base has grown here on Goozex, I see more praise for those games. I mean look at the love letter thread to Demon's Souls we have here. The only negative remarks about that game are form people like me who are wimpy gamers.
Demon's Souls really is great. [swoon]
It's funny, I seem to recall saying I know that all games have their flaws, and yet I have someone telling me that exact same thing and using it as an excuse as to why I should change my beliefs about Uncharted 2. Funny little world we live in, isn't it?
You know what actually deserves GOTY right now? Demon's Souls.

I bet GOTY goes to Modern Warfare 2.

I would have to say the Ratchet and Clank games deserve the scores they have got and they are exclusives. As soon as I get the new game in from Goozex I am going to trade my second 360 in for a ps3. Other than that I would have to agree that exclusives are overrated but that is a byproduct of them being exclusives. Anyone that is a fanboy wants their system to be the best and one way to do that is to hype the crap out of their exclusive titles.

I'm not saying that you should change your opinions, but I don't understand why people are so snarky towards those that suggest it's the best game they've every played. Or say that people that consider it's the perfect video game aren't grounded in reality. I haven't finished yet, but I've played some and I have to say the production values are off the charts. Like never before seen in a video game production values - better than MGS4 IMO. Especially considering that MGS4's cutscenes weren't really a stand alone product. You had no clue what was going on in the "movie" unless you had played the others or spent hours on Wiki studying the previous plotlines. UC2 is as close to a blend of movie and video game as anything I've ever seen. My wife hates watching me play video games, but I actually talked her into watching me play because of the commercial with the geeky guy and his girlfriend. She was actually entertained, watched for several hours, and was quoting a couple one liners from the game later that night. For some people, this is their idea of entertainment and this is as close to a perfect video game as they've ever played. They're able to overlook a couple flaws in mechanics in some places, and a few other minor complaints and just enjoy it for what it is. I don't know why some people seem to find it so offensive, but whatever.

Because we strive for more. Don't feed us hamburger and call it steak (Angus though it may be)

I liken it more to people suggesting other people "ruin" their steaks by cooking them medium well or longer. Everybody likes to eat their steaks differently. Just like I couldn't stand VC after a certain point and played garbage like Smackdown vs Raw, Sonic's Genesis Collection, and Skate 2 rather than find time for it. :)
