mafafu: Robstein: I really enjoyed UC2, but my god some people seem to be ignoring a lot of its issues. The partner and enemy AI is terrible, for one. Your partners are basically bullet sponges that do very little to help during a firefight (especially on the difficulties higher than Normal) and the enemies simply charge forward while shooting and never have to reload. Sure they may toss a grenade to flush you out or TRY to flank you in a simple fashion, but that kind of stuff is pretty rote at this point. I've also had a couple of instances where I got stuck inside of an object or piece of debris and couldn't get out, so I had to restart from my last checkpoint. It's not a huge deal as the checkpoints are usually pretty close together, but it's not something I'd expect from the "Best Game Ever." I also wasn't a fan of the way they recycled a lot of animations (no matter how cool they were). Character A gets a boost to a ladder then kicks it down to you. 20 minutes later Character D does the same exact thing the same exact way, only this time the ladder is made of bamboo instead of metal. 10 minutes after that, Character D does it again, etc... The same thing goes for the "Jump and I'll catch you" moments. Each and every one was the same thing with different character models and dialog. And as fun as the over-the-top setpieces were, I couldn't help but feel like I was being dragged through an action movie. Don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed the hell out of UC2. It's just nowhere near perfect and I'd never consider it my Best Game Ever. Hallelujah

Definitely nice to see someone else grounded in reality when it comes to this game.

I'll agree with that; Enjoyed the game as well, believing it deserves a solid 8 (if you ignore the multiplayer).
One particular glitch that annoyed me was that during the final boss fight, I was thrown into a tree with ground clearly under me, but my arms start flailing (for about 30 seconds) and I die as if I jumped off a cliff

But you can only find that in the "Best Game Ever!"

Precisely. Sounds pretty epic to me. Must have been thrown rather hard.

Something similar happened to me earlier in the game. I was running around with Sully and I got on top of a small boulder. Sully was right behind me and I jumped backwards Sully didn't move and I got stuck in midair between him and the rock I'd been standing on. Then I fell to my death (about two feet), but it was as if I was falling off the cliff.
I'll parrot what others have already said. UC2 is a great game. The story and characters are top notch. I recommend it to anyone. But it's hardly the type of game that's worth going out and buying a PS3 to play it.
Saturn Bomberman is the only game that holds those honors.

Exactly. People like watching movies. People like playing games. Who hasn't thought, I wish I could control the character in this movie?
Is it linear? Yep. Was it ever, in either game, at any time, suggesting that it wasn't? It's not trying to be a sandbox game. It's not open world and it doesn't offer a morality system. It's a one-way completely linear game that plays basically like a movie or a book. It presents colorful characters and beautiful sceneary. It gives you a pretty solid script and a story line better than most of what Hollywood puts out these days.
Don't fault it for what it wasn't trying to be, give it credit for what it was.
That said, I think the AI in the first game was a little stronger. The enemies in this game really buckle down into their cover and never really advance. The only time I had difficulty holding them back was in the train scene waiting for the truck to come get you. In the first Uncharted, there were many more points where I'd think, 'damnit! stop getting behind me!'
I think the cover system in this game was improved over the last, but I'm not entirely sure I like the gun mechanics better. I'll have to play the first game again and see, but Uncharted 2's bullets definitely feel slower (from what I recall).
Anyone else see that recent commercial for Uncharted 2? It's a guy complaining to the camera that his girlfriend won't leave him alone while he's playing Uncharted 2 because she thinks it's a movie. That is exactly how it goes in my house. She doesn't mind me playing through the action parts when she's busy doing things, but if I get to a cut scene, I have to pause it to get her attention so she can watch it.

It's pretty amusing how everyone is looking to nitpick the hell out of UC2 just because it got good reviews. There isn't a flawless game out there. Just about every game out there comes complete with a list of minor issues, but the rest of the game sucks compared to Uncharted. That's why it got the ratings it did.
lol...does that really make him a fanboy?

Nah, more of a stalker.

The pic was for you, jerk.
Easily Demon's Souls. That game is epic. The first two on the list failed to live up to their hype, and the third is well, baseball. While UC2 and R&C are more accessible than Demon's Souls, I really don't see a more revolutionary PS3 game this year. Besides, I know I'm going to get flamed, but UC2 lacks innovation. When deciding a GOTY, that should really be a primary attribute. Any game maker can reproduce a previous game and polish it up some (just look at Unreal, Halo, every sports game ever, Killzone, etc) and still get great ratings. Not to say the games aren't fun, but UC2 is pretty overhyped in my opinion. Though I must say, DS is certainly not for everyone, but it's a game that actually requires player skills to properly utilize the combat system, which is really unique these days.
im not trying to flame or argue because i haven't played demons soul. But i have to ask what is innovative about it?(serious question, not rhetorical)
The combat system is really, really good. The online aspects are really nice, and prompt creativity. Its take on a karma system is rather interesting as well. You pretty much have to try it to really understand, since the videos don't do it justice. While it certainly isn't super ultra innovative, don't take it that way, it brings new and old ideas together to form a very interesting game.
The devs certainly weren't afraid to bring in some realism, because you certainly aren't a super indestructable hyper soilder or something of the sort. If someone charges you with a spear and you fail to block it, you'll almost always die.
I love how pointing out obvious flaws in a game many are claiming to be "perfect" means I'm nitpicking.
My post about UC2 wasn't an attack. I like the damn game, and I've said as much before. I'm just saying it's not perfect (like every other game in existence), and it's never going to be my Best Game Ever.
Look, as much as I dislike Halo, I don't recall ever getting stuck in the level geometry or dying by jumping off a 2-foot-high rock. If this were any other game other than The New Uncharted, people would be citing these obvious glitches ("flaws" if you will) as reasons why the game sucks or isn't worth playing. I'm not saying Uncharted 2 shouldn't be played or sucks because of a few bugs. What I am saying is people shouldn't turn a blind eye to imperfection, simply because of a pedigree, then claim perfection.
And my real gripe about the setpieces is this: Sure they're amazing, but they aren't very dynamic. Going through it once will be the same as the second, third and fourth time. There's little to no real interactivity during these segments. As someone who gets more enjoyment out of a game I can play over and over again as opposed to playing once for 10 - 20 hours, this bugs me. They were cool moments, but they'll be exactly the same when I get to them again during my next playthrough on Crushing, and that disappoints me.
