jut22: Kenny007: lol. How many different threads are we going to have that simultaneously suggest that UC2 was the greatest while also potentially griping about it? it's def no where near a gripe. u missed my point. Uncharted 2 is one of the best games i've ever played...period. the game reviews on other sites were so quick to dub UC2 the best ever on the console. The PS3 had some many other great games just this year, i wanted to see what other goozex members thought was their favorite.

I'm not suggesting you're griping about it. I personally agree in UC2's awesomeness.
Generally the naysayers from the other side of the console pond denounce Uncharted 2. Nevertheless, it's a pretty solid game deserving of praise.

still awaiting my copy to come in from the exchange, can't wait to see what you guys are talking about
play more games? i've been playing since my uncle gave me an atari when i was 4 yrs old i'm 28 now. if i did that my brain might just melt.
I tend to have a problem with the fact that when all I hear is constant praise with a game being called Best or Greatest, that the more I play it, the more I begin to actually notice the faults. The faults within UC2 are many, and some are capable of forgiving the faults and enjoy the game, which is completely valid. I was able to enjoy WET because I could forgive all the problems the game had.
But I can admit faults in a game I like and enjoy, my problem lies with the fanboys who ignore the faults and refuse to admit the game has any. I have never stated Uncharted 2 isn't great, but it is not the best, not the greatest and there are better PS3 games out there.
GOTYs aren't won or lost based on how many faults there are. That's a negative POV.
GOTYs are about what great things a game can do and how much greatness is there. The Elder Scrolls games for example have more bugs and glitches than most games around.. .but they also have way more depth than most games and have won numerous GOTYs
It's like Phil Simms was saying about Tom Brady. If you want mistake free football, just run a QB Kneel down on every play. If you want greatness, you must take risks, and life w/ mistakes.
Uncharted 2 takes risks, and delivers. People bash it's faults, yet name any action game that comes close to U2 in terms of presentation, moving set piece gameplay and a cohesive "wow this is cool" feeling all packaged with some of the best graphics on any console? GTA series maybe? Metroid series?
But I still go back to Demon's Souls. If you've played any other FROM SOFTWARE games like Eternal Ring, you can see Demon's SOuls was what they were tying to make back then on PS2 hardware, but limitations forced them to compromise.
Demon's Souls finally allows FROM software to make the RPG they've been wanting/trying to make for over 10 years now.

FROM is a highly underrated company.

Anyone who uses Tom Brady as a piece of their argument automatically makes their point invalid. No one cares about that cheater, his cheating coach, and his team of cheaters.

Fair enough...I just haven't seen much wrong with it. I could care less about defending it if it had some problems that I'd seen. Short of the lead chicks overly glossed eyes (something I mentioned elsewhere), I haven't seen much wrong. Granted I'm still only on level 9, so something big might be waiting for me to change my mind. Even the story 'twists' aren't a con for me, though while extreme, we are talking about cursed objects and treasures which other lore have hinted to have errie affects on those that seek it, so I can take their embellishments at face value and continue to enjoy the story.
I think I read somewhere that people were having headshot problems, whereas I've been fine in that regard (and trust me, I'm terrible with clunky controllers). A whole thread about freezing, thankfully missing that one. I did fall off a ledge once when I really figured I shouldn't have, that irked me a little, but I'm reaching there.
I can't say Best or Greatest until I've seen it through, but I can say that the Uncharted series is one of the most enjoyable series I've had the pleasure of playing through, and I hope to see more of it's kind. The story, voice, and character acting are strong enough to keep me interested in a single player game, a HUGE accomplishment for me these days, drawn to the ever popular story-less, multiplayer fray.

I am one of those with head shot problems. As for freezing, I have yet to experience, nor am I at the chapters it tends to happen in (very close). I have had voice syncing issues with it looking like an old Kung Fu movie dub. But a pause of the game and unpause clears it up right away. And yes, Chloe's eyes are very odd looking and can be annoying.
My biggest issue is with the nonstop gunplay without tighter mechanics. Stop making Drake out to be this person who doesn't like violence or hurting others if you are going to shoot and kill the whole game. I would love to see more puzzles, other than obvious where do I go next. None of the puzzles had any real challenge to them. Another issue is sometimes the lack of direction on where to go next, and without waiting for the hint to pop up, many times I would guess and rely on pure luck.
But I was able to forgive most faults, until I became burnt out on the constant gun battles. I will go back and finish soon, but it just got old. I mainly want to finish because the story and characters are so damn good and charming.
I personally enjoy the gun play and find the cover combat well done.
However, your reply did remind me of one qualm that I didn't mention and is quite valid. In UC2 I too find myself stumped more often than in the original on where to go next. The original I played through on Hard and Crushing, found all treasures with NO GUIDES OR ASSISTANCE. In my normal 'must give myself the hardest time possible' mindset, I scoffed at the 'Hints' offered by UC2 and told myself I wouldn't touch them. It only took playing to around levels 3-5 that I needed to start consulting them; thoroughly lost. I did find this a bit annoying, so I'll definitely agree with you there. The hints were definitely needed in this one.
I also don't like that they tie said hints with a sort of 'activate storyline sequence' button. Like I said, I often hesitate pressing it, only to find that it's not a hint, but rather forcing the character to observe something nearby to advance the story.

Wow, factually Tom Brady has never been even accused of cheating. I'd also argue against "no one cares" considering the NEPat fanbase extending all the way to England.
I'd go on to list the FACTUAL "cheaters" list (coaches or gms or players who have been found by the NFL to be in violation of the rules) but clearly that would not matter. You'd be surprised at the list, and it hits on many super bowl and playoff teams, fondly remembered like Denver, Miami etc... all w/ infractions similar or greater than the sideline camera.
All of Major League Baseball from the past 15 years would also be completely negated w/ this perspective.
I really enjoyed UC2, but my god some people seem to be ignoring a lot of its issues.
The partner and enemy AI is terrible, for one. Your partners are basically bullet sponges that do very little to help during a firefight (especially on the difficulties higher than Normal) and the enemies simply charge forward while shooting and never have to reload. Sure they may toss a grenade to flush you out or TRY to flank you in a simple fashion, but that kind of stuff is pretty rote at this point.
I've also had a couple of instances where I got stuck inside of an object or piece of debris and couldn't get out, so I had to restart from my last checkpoint. It's not a huge deal as the checkpoints are usually pretty close together, but it's not something I'd expect from the "Best Game Ever."
I also wasn't a fan of the way they recycled a lot of animations (no matter how cool they were). Character A gets a boost to a ladder then kicks it down to you. 20 minutes later Character D does the same exact thing the same exact way, only this time the ladder is made of bamboo instead of metal. 10 minutes after that, Character D does it again, etc... The same thing goes for the "Jump and I'll catch you" moments. Each and every one was the same thing with different character models and dialog. And as fun as the over-the-top setpieces were, I couldn't help but feel like I was being dragged through an action movie.
Don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed the hell out of UC2. It's just nowhere near perfect and I'd never consider it my Best Game Ever.
