Is there any option to only buy a single token?

NO because the point is once you use the first one you will like the website and stay.

Sorry, but 5 is the smallest amount you can purchase at a time. It is similar to how some stores make you purchase $5 worth of merchandise to use your credit/debit card. Anything less than that is not cost effective after the business loses the bank/credit card fees involved.

It's not so much a question of not wanting to stay as it is a question of not wanting to have to buy five of them at the moment.  I guess there is no option then?  I thought I must have been missing something...

no because paypal and credit card fees on a $1 transaction would be too much which is why they are only available in packs of 5 or more.
