Puh-lease...
matrix_hiei:Rap is amazing if it's done right.
I really think this can apply to all genres of music.

I strongly suggest checking him out. He was nominated for a Canadian independent music award (I can't think of the name of it), but unfortunately he didn't win. He had some pretty tough competition though; Metric, K-OS, Joel Plaskett and the eventual winners ****ed Up.
Found it! It was the Polaris Award.

Agreed I'm not a huge rap song but I like Dialted People's, Tribe, Wu Tang (best ever). Mainstream Music in General is garbage. Seriously I listen to some of these Rappers and their horrible horrible music and then see all these fake boobed blonde bimbo's thiking it's all great and I wonder what the hell is wrong with our society. Seriously being a complete loser gets you chicks these days

So do it then.
Rap like any genre of music is 90% crap 10% brilliance. Rock, Classical, Jazz... it's always mostly garbage, especially the popular stuff like Fall out Boy, Jonas Bros, SOulja Boi, catering to the dumbed down middle of the road types.
The world would be completly boring if everyone liked the exact same stuff, so that is why we all have opinons and they are great. And rap has talent it takes some talent to come up with the ryhmes on the spot, some of the rappers arent talented though i know. lil wayne dosent write lyrics he just raps them on the spot that is talent do you know how to ryhme fast without stopping and making sense...
You know there are a lot of "artists" that don't even write their lyrics? They get some "professional lyricist" and have them write lyrics and some other dudes to make a beat for it and all they actually do is say the words to the write beat and put thei faces on the cover of the album and some *** or a car on the back cover. Yeah and truly what the hell happened to our society?

You do know that this has been going on forever right?
Motown used to have song writers and an in-house band set up a song and then have all of their artists take turns singing it and give it to whoever sounded best.
Songwriters were around long before rap. Frank Sinatra's career was built w/ songwriter collabs

Yeah thats what im saying. Im not saying its just rap or that its happening just now. What im saying is that it doesn't make sense. Why should somebody else get all the credit when they didnt evem write it. Sure they are credited in the fine print but rarely do you hear the song writers names on tv or anywhere for that matter. I mean I understand covers of songs thats very different but when people write lyrics for someone else to use and get the most out of it then thats just dumb.
I was reading through this and i thought i should throw my 2 cents in. First for all the people that think hip hop is just the same thing every time, its not. You have to dig through the mainstream garbage to get to the real hip hop, just like metal you gotta get past all the same sounding bands to get to the amazing bands. The artists that I recommend to people that havent listened to hip hop but want to at least give it a try are: MF Doom, Wu Tang Clan, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, Common, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, The Pharcyde, Jay Electronica, Public enemy just to name a few. I also love metal so if your a metal head hesetant in trying, dont worry it wont give you some weird diesese so it doesnt hurt to try it.

I personally can't. To be perfectly honest, most people I know can rap just as good if not better then mainstream. That can go into freestyle no problem. If just some random friends I know can do it almost as good as professionals there's an issue. Whereas I can't think of one of my friends who can actually sing as good as a rock group such as Led Zepplin or The Eagles. But, too be honest there ARE a few good "rap" bands. But, this is due to the music not the actual rapping. Like Beastie boys or Rage agaisn't the machine.
I can't take him seriously, I like rap hip hop ok, but this guy was on a pre-teen canadian drama called degrassi for about 5 years before starting to rap, so I am sorry you aren't hardcore or cool drake, kind of lame...If you dont really love the message that rap and hip hop is about but think the sound is ok, try someone like sage francis or aesop rock. The lyrics are more like poetry and they sound similare to more traditional rap about popping caps and whatnot. I also like El Pus a lot because he has an interesting sound, although he has two small cds out and the messages in them seem to conflict a lot, although I am not sure if the first one was from his younger days because that could be a possible reason for the discrepancy.
