I just got the game again and I remember the last time I played through I had a lot of difficulty. I couldn't get past the first boss (Which I think was a clown) or that section where those crazy guys are on the car outside.

Any tips on getting through the game?

Also, is there a mode where you can just kill zombies?

First time I borrowed it from a friend and was suprised out how difficult it was. I could barely kill the indian guy, and then got stuck on the truck with prisoners (at least I think it was prisoners). Then I picked it up later on down the road, completly fresh start, and saved on a mission that was timed. Apparently when I saved the mission was almost over because I could never get to the safehouse in time.

I gave up on this game, it was to frustating.

You can kill zombies at your leisure if you let the first case expire; you're then free to do whatever you want until noon on the third day. There's also "Infinity Mode" which you allows you to just kill zombies, but you have to finish the story mode first.

Best thing to do before trying to complete the story is to play without trying to actually finish the game so you can level your character up. Do this by rescuing people and killing zombies. Your stats carry over, so subsequent playthroughs will be easier.

The best weapons to use early on are the sledgehammer and the katana: the sledgehammer is in the storage room, and the katana can be found on the awning outside Columbian Roastmasters in Paradise Plaza (it's upstairs).

Some of the melee attacks are useful: Double Lariat and Hammer Throw are great at clearing out zombies. As soon as you earn this moves, start practicing them.

Survivors are stupid. Never use the "Follow me" command, since they'll always get mobbed. Set a waypoint for them, and then clear a path. You can also give them health items and weapons, but just give them basic weapons like hunting knives or boards. If you have a group of survivors, you can set a waypoint in a bathroom and they'll be safe there, since zombies don't use bathrooms.

Definitely try to kill the clown boss for two reasons: you get to use his mini-chainsaws as weapons (which are great) and he's holding a mall worker hostage; if you free the worker, he'll open up a shortcut between Wonderland Plaza and Paradise Plaza (where the mall office is) which allows you to bypass the park entirely.

Try to get the "Zombie Genocider" achievement: you get a super-weapon that can kill anything in one shot (like the guys in the park) for getting it. To get the achievement, go into the service tunnels; the entrance is in the park, between the food court and the North Plaza. Grab the car, go in the tunnel, and then turn left. At the end is a truck: use this to drive over zombies. When it starts to wear out, go in the butcher shop (located right where the truck is) and then exit. This will reset everything, so the truck will be brand-new and there'll be a bunch more zombies. Keep doing this until you've gotten the achievement (it'll take about three hours). Then get an ending for the game, and when you start a new game the Real Mega-Blaster will be in the mall office. Use this to kill bosses in one shot.

shoot the ballons, shoot him, repeat

find the books needed to add longivity to the clowns' chainsaw he drops and use that as your main weapon

most powerful weapon in the game,(well besides the mega blaster) also when he dies pick up the chainsaw, save otto, pick up another one

Thanks guys.

Maybe now I'll get somewhere in the game. It's fun to kill zombies, but shooting is such a bitch.

You don't have to go into aim mode to shoot: when you have a firearm equipped just tap 'X' and it'll auto-fire at the closest enemy.

Best tip I can give you for dead rising?  Watch your damn save files.  Its so easy to lose it on that game from overwriting or just general corruption of the save file.  I gave up on that game long ago cause of it :(

What level should I get through before I start playing through?

Does the katana respawn, or do you only get it once?

Try to get to around level 25 - 30.

Everything respawns. Every time a loading screen appears, every item respawns so you can enter and exit an area several times if there are certain items you want multiples of.

Columbian Roastmasters has a bottomless supply of orange juice too, which is probably the best health item in the game.

Get the Zombie Genocide achievement. Go to the parking lot and just keep running down zombies between the two points. It does 2 things. First you'll unlock the Megaman Blaster(300 shots, 1 hit 1kill on normal zombies, puts bosses down quick), 2nd, You'll level up to about 30 because of it. Then go through the story
